Quiet pub but none the worse for it.
Timothy Taylor's Landlord was well kept.
Garden looks as if it would be popular with better weather.

Absolute legend of a pub
The landlord was very friendly and everyone was inviting. We got to talking with the locals and a very nice old man even bought me a whisky! I have been to many pubs and not many have been a fraction as good as this one. Very good prices and even better people. If I happen to be around here again I will definitely visit again

After walking around on a sunny day to find somewhere to sit outside with a drink popped into this place. Typical local, very friendly staff and surprising large beer garden. Will be back.

Have never had a bad experience. Food and drinks always top quality.
Staff are always super welcoming and friendly.

Had the most delicious macaroni and cheese, served with chips and garlic bread in this very welcoming pub today. Definitely glad their kitchens have opened again as sadly the whole pub was shut the last time we visited.

On a day out with St Patricks picnic group and popped in for a quick drink on a sweltering day. Lovely staff and brilliant beer garden which was appreciated on a hot day, made very welcome by staff. Would recommend this wee gem of a pub.

In Troon with friends for the day. Popped into McKays for a couple of drinks before finding somewhere to eat. Returned afterwards. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Prices good. Less expensive than some of my local drinking places in East Kilbride. Would definitely recommend.

It's a pub. Old fashioned, and quaint.
The decor is a bit bright and feels new. I would rather it had been given a more "period" feel. I was hoping to catch Robert Burns in here.

Lovely wee friendly hostelry - hosts James, his wife Denise and barstaff are very welcoming and friendly to ALL - like "Cheers" where everybody knows your name - highly recommend !!!

McKays have a reasonable selection of real ales on tap, and I was delighted to renew my acquaintance with an old favourite, Thrappledouser. But they have a reasonable selection of other ales and if I lived in Troon I could see this becoming a popular haunt.
Both time I've visited here it has been early in the evening and it's been pretty quiet, allowing us to have a conversation. The main pub isn't huge, but the space is split into a few different areas to inhabit so it's easy to find a quiet corner, and there's no loud music to inhibit conversation.
The barkeep was friendly and chatty and remembered me from my previous visit a few weeks previously, which was nice. Thumbs up from me.

Boasting real ale & and a beer garden, it didn't seen like a bad idea, reasonable sized bar with no loud music seemed to confirm.
In reality the fact that 3 out of 4 hand-pulled beer pumps had run out makes it a different story: disappointing! The one beer they did have, Theakston's Old Peculiar, didn't taste right.
Poor, hopefully just caught then on a bad night.
