Lovely place for a quick drink before getting on the train

Nice and classy venue. Easy access to town and train station. There is a small rear/ semi outside area with a log fire but no beer garden

A lovely couple of hours with family and neighbours. Polite staff, clean and a pleasant ambiance

Lovely stylish interior but very much a sports pub. Absolutely heaving so book if you want food Friday and weekends. Very nice pub, friendly and clearly popular with regulars.

Very nice pub, able to watch football inside and out the back. Card only

Convenient location next to the station and a relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with friends, or watching sport. Good range of drinks and staff are always friendly.

This is one of the places in which I'm always rushing past, without the time to go in, and it's most frustrating when that involves a pub. So, as I was working in Trowbridge, I made a particular effort to open a gap in my schedule.
I can tell it's a friendly place, as there are often happy-looking people sitting outside. They say the people make the pub, although further research will be needed, as I managed to pop in on a very quiet day. Nonetheless, the few people who were around were chatty and informative, and they're ducking in the bar photo to make less work for me in obscuring faces afterward.
The Pub is 200 years old, having been built the same time as the railway it's next to. It used to be even closer to the trains, but part of it was demolished to make way for an access road.
There are various humorous sayings and conversation points scattered around the main indoor area, which looks very cozy. These include a steampunk table, a water barrel for dogs, a shelf of old books, and unusual lighting features. There's a lot of antique-style leather-padded seating, so this looks angled towards sitting and talking rather than being numbed by loud music.
The toilets are along an internal corridor, making a partial island of the bar, and I glimpsed a sports room further along. It looks like the building is good in cold weather, but it also has parts with walls that can be opened in the summer.
Potentially will be visiting again.
