Really welcoming dog friendly pub. Run by a dedicated couple who take time to chat and make you feel welcome. Comfortable and spacious and with good food and beer at reasonable prices. Would highly recommend.

We called in for a late Sunday tea. Will no doubt have been a very busy day as the weather had been great. All areas were well cleared and ready to choose a table, with a warm greeting from the staff.
Food was great, I had the buttermilk chicken burger and my other half had one of the pizzas. As a pair of absolute starvers usually, I am pleased to confirm that the portions were ample and both of us suitably stuffed.
Defo will be back and hopefully to take advantage of some good weather in the beer garden.

We have been bringing our 2 Granddaughters here every other Saturday evening for the last 9 months and the food and service has always been fabulous 👌 good varied menu, large portions, always cooked perfectly. The last couple of times there has been a large number of us (8-12)and again the food and service was superb👍.Delighted to see it getting busier and busier with diners without the quality of food suffering, we are so lucky to have this little gem of a pub serving great home cooked food on our doorstep. Many thanks 😊

Four of us had a great meal last night at The British Oak. Two had fish and chips, one had burger and I had gammon. All meals very good. Service by the young lady who served us was excellent, friendly, polite, very welcoming. Will definitely be back.

Hard to get excited about a Sunday roast, until you visit the British Oak. Absolutely fabulous. Generous serving of meat. As I moved my veg more meat appeared. All cooked to perfection, but the real treat believe it or not was the grated red cabbage. It was like the food of the gods. Who'd have believed it. A dedicated carnivore raving about red cabbage. Gorgeousness on a plate.

Just had the worst meal ever here. Always had good food, but Sunday dinner was very poor. The veg was dish full of peas and carrots with a little bit of raw shredded cabbage on top. Powdered mash, roast potatoes that tasted like they had been sat all day and dropped in deep fat fryer to warm them up. Spoke to the waitress, she said we were the 4th complaint about Sunday lunch today. £10.95 each for that rubbish!!!!!!!!!

We were at the British oak last Wednesday evening, we got a lovely welcome although we were the only ones eating inside. A few meal went outside. I ordered a prawn salad, so disappointed when it arrived, 4 small lettuce leaves, bits of cucumber with a bag of shrimps plonked In the middle of the dish, no chef skills needed or used at all. My friend had hunters chicken which had been crucified with the bacon and cheese on top all burnt. It was such a shame as the manageress was lovely only been in a few days.

Love the new direction this place is taking! Can’t wait for the new things they’re bringing in - had such a lovely evening at the oak staff so friendly and felt so welcome. Atmosphere is so relaxing and enjoyable and fab choice of gins! The owners passion for this place will definitely bring me back

Put it this way went about 5 weeks ago for Sunday dinner ordered the beef as s few of us were together all I saw as my plate was out in front of me was pink meat and all blood on my plate. Went for this Christmas meal £19-99. Turkey most of us ordered turkey mash and couple roast potato’s not bad pig in blanket bacon was raw as was the sausage just slightly warm the stuffing well I have never ever seen any it was a dark brown ball on plate as big as a pool ball cut it open and it was pink color inside I had a taste I can honestly say I have never ever tasted anything like that before and call it stuffing. Don’t get started about my prawn starte that should have had some salmon in. No sauce on it brown bread with no butter to spread on it and even brown bread was as dry as anything. I did say. If this was my pub and I saw the amount of food being left on plates and the really rick hard veg going back in kitchen I would seriously be worried and thinking why are they not eating it. I have been twice now. Gave them benefit of doubt thinking well s xmas menu as got to be good. By we said all 14 of us that no way will we ever go back.

We visited yesterday (3/3/18) having not been since the pub changed hands because of the poor reviews. Recent reviews seemed better since the pub had changed owners again and we decided to venture back. We were very glad we did!!! The new decor is lovely, staff friendly and food gorgeous. Yes we waited a while for our food but it was cooked fresh, nothing was frozen and reheated and it tasted amazing. We are very glad the standards have improved and we left enjoying our meal as much as the old times and will definitely be back

I came here on Christmas eve for my friends birthday. We were part of a very large party. The service was fantastic and the staff were very friendly and happy.
The food was delicious and the huge order all came out with no problems at all (considering how many of us there were).
Because of this I returned tonight, with my family. Again a large party of 16.
Christmas eve wasn't a one off because again, the staff were extremely friendly and the food was delicious and served with no problems at all.
Would definitely recommend this place and we will definitely be back again.
Thank you

Couldn’t rate the food enough it was beautiful and the chocolate brownie was amazing! Extremely friendly staff and very accommodating as we were a party of 8. Will definitely visit again

We took one look at the terrible 'chain' menu and walked straight back out. The puddings were Brakes' and the food was typical 'chain' food. I struggled to find anything that appealed. The best thing about the 'old' British Oak was the amazing menu and fabulous home cooked food. I will not go back here. Why do people have to change what was brilliant? Very very disappointed.
Sheila Priest
Been here today for a birthday lunch. I haven't been here for about 5 years. Shan't be coming back. British Oak was always renowned for it's freshly cooked food, great atmosphere and a dedicated friendly staff. Now a clinical and lack lustre pub selling the same old microwaved precooked stuff with a very limited menu :-(

What lovely warm welcome we got here on Wednesday evening!
The beer garden was fab for the children & landlady & landlord was very accommodating bringing extra plates and high chairs, when our food came, which was absolutely delicious!! Really is a must try! We shall be back!
