We thought you might be interested in seeing this. Your pub was awarded 5 stars by gastrohub. Here's the review. My Dad was unable to cross over to the mystical land of pub reviews this week due to being so excited about his upcoming birthday. My desperate need to eat and review was however satiated by my dear sister, who stepped in to the breach for the first time. Though me and Dad, or Dad and I if you are an English student, had previously visited, and knew it to be good, but Emily had never been, meaning that her fresh input would be most welcome. This is a pretty pub, set in the small village of Walderton. There's a nice little garden round the back which is flanked by a small river. The pub itself is a good size and is on the whole light and offers plenty of seating. Saying that, it turned out we were lucky to get a table. Certainly one of the busier pubs I've seen on a Friday lunchtime, generating a warm and relaxed atmosphere. After a scan through the menu, I thought I'd go for something a bit different, opting for the nut, root vegetable, apricot and goats cheese roast. This came with chips and a salad. Emily went for good old fish and chips. This choice will bring several questions your way as there is a small and a large version. You can also choose between battered or breaded fish, although my sister wasn't given that option. Most meals here will cost you somewhere between £12 and £15, I believe deserts were under £5. Before long, the food arrived and we got down to business. My nut roast was very nice, although the apricots weren't forthcoming. The chips were unfortunately not homemade, but the salad was a thoughtful one. What I mean buy this, is that it wasn't just some leaves with a slice of tomato and cucumber. There were peppers and sweet corn and a lovely dressing. Emily's fish was very good with a crisp batter, but the chips were of course from the same bag as mine. After eating all our food up like good children, my sister bullied me in to ordering a desert. She chose the sticky toffee pudding, while I picked the brownie sundae. Both puddings were delicious, and I was particularly excited about having a special long spoon for mine. This is a lovely pub, not long taken over by the current regime, who are very friendly and helpful, and are clearly trying to do things the right way. It is probably worth pointing out at this stage that they also have their very own skittle alley. It is certainly worth a visit, and I'd quite like to go back in the Summer and sit out in the garden, enjoying a lazy afternoon. I don't want to go on about chips again, my Dad will tell me off, but I do believe that good homemade chips would make a world of difference, especially since chips will often make up a large part of the food you are paying for.

I hired out the skittle alley for a work function and we all had such a great time. Lorraine the land lady was super nice and helpful. The buffet was AMAZING and surpassed all our expectations. The pub is nestled away in a beautiful part of the countryside too. We'll worth a visit.

Delicious traditional pub grub, land lady is incredibly warm and welcoming. Dog friendly! We had a lovely lunch and will definitely be returning. Good to support independent local pubs!! A definite must if you're in the area and looking for food/a drink :)

Phoned to book a table for that afternoon and was booked in straight away! When we arrived a table was ready and our dogs could sit with us. The roast was amazing, best we have had. Friendly and helpful staff and nothing was too much trouble, including giving us directions!! We will definitely be back. Thank you

Had a gorgeous fillet steak on a "Steak Saturday " deal which comes with all the delicious trimmings and a glass of wine for £30!! Absolutely worth every penny- and the bonus is that the staff are lovely! Only 4*for atmosphere as it was very quiet, just a few locals eating- but it was early evening so I'm sure it would be a lot busier later. Sunday lunch is not to be missed either!!

Wonderful warm welcome at this village pub. Dog friendly, biscuits on arrival! Quite open inside and barn like, so atmosphere wasn't country pub-ish but it was well decorated and spacious. We ate in the garden as it was a lovely day. Service was prompt and efficient. Food choices are excellent and competitively priced. Quiches, ciabatta, burgers, fish, etc. Could smell wonderful steak cooking. It's nice to be able to get a lighter bite at lunchtime. Beer was good and again, reasonably priced. Will definitely visit again.

I came in soaking wet and cold and left with a smile. After getting caught in some showers after walking most of the day I really needed a drink. Some places would frown upon people tuning up like that however from the moment I walked in I felt better. The kind lady behind the bar was very understanding and made sure I had a seat and felt welcome. She was polite and friendly which goes a long way. The selection of drinks was great fairly vast. The atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming. The only reason I haven't rated the food is because I did not have the pleasure of eating there today but I will be back! Highly recommend and look forward to next time.

Super friendly welcoming pub. We booked a table after a country walk there was 12 of us plus 2 dogs and the pub were super accommodating and attentive. The food was lovely and came out quick. The lasagne looked amazing! The pub is set in a beautiful location with a nice garden out the back and a good sized car park. Would absolutely visit again.

Fabulous cosy country pub with log fires and great quality pub food with clasdic dishes. Good efficient service from the owner plus a wide range of popular ales. Can highly recommend the Harvey's IPA. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the South Downs.
