Wigeon Cafe - Welney - Photo album

Even with winter arriving it's still a beautiful time to visit the lovely show of swans being fed at 3-30pm and the floodlit one I went to at 6-30pm. Very informative talk before and during feeding, not just about the swans but also the whole philosophy of the founder Sir Peter Scott. Photography is
We had a lovely afternoon here. We saw birds we had not seen before. At the time we visited, the place was alive with dragonflies. The visitor centre is lovely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Whatever age you are, you must visit the children's activity room. It is also called the pond r
Brilliant day at Welney on the final day of out Norfolk Tour. Staff were very helpful and facilities here are excellent (and warm!) Great to see Tree Sparrows on the feeders, Spotted Redshank, Red Kite, Marsh Harriers, Cattle, Little and Great Egrets and of course the Whooper Swans and Ducks. Male S
Brief visit early afternoon today. Unfortunately all the paths to the hides over the bridge were flooded but we saw hundreds of Pochards very close to the main Observatory Hide, a few Whooper Swans, Lapwings and Black Tailed Godwits. Had a really tasty Vegetarian Curry Chick pea pastie with baked b
Nice place, it's pretty much all in a straight line, which is good if you have a talent for getting lost. Saw my first whooper swan so that was a tick in the box! Plus a group of cranes and quite a few great egrets too. Loads of dragonflies and red admiral butterflies.
Hi visited on 1Jan 2024 and started with some sunshine which was nice. Amazing place with excellent staff who explained everything that was going on during the day. The main viewing hide is probably one of the best I’ve seen and well worth a visit on its own. Heated inside comfortable seating ideal
This is an amazing place for nature. It is the epitome of peace and tranquility. Upon arrival I was a little concerned that almost all the visitors were 50+ and mostly men and I was visiting with my family including two young children. As such I felt somewhat out of place but I needn't have. Welney
Welney is our happy place when we need peace and nature. It’s beautiful on a sunny day. The cafe is great and always has a gf option if you need a snack. Our only criticism is that it closes at 4pm during summer weekends. We drive a long way to get to Welney so it’s always a shame to be kicked out w
We visited this wetlands twice either side of a weekend away birdwatching in Norfolk. Like the other WWT sites that we have been to, it is well laid out with friendly knowledgeable staff who are more than willing to give help if you need it. We visited all the hides that were open (one had been floo
A large visitor centre with plenty of parking spaces, looked to be very accessible, lots of ramps and a lift to the upper floor. Unfortunately for us half the site was closed due to the paths being flooded, which is somewhat ironic for a wetland centre, but anyway. The main hide as you come over the
Had a great time here with my son. It was flooded, which is normal for this time of year, so we couldn't walk on most of the paths, but we still got to see a lot of birds. It's well worth timing your visit to see a swan feed, as it attracts lots of swans and ducks, and the volunteers tell you about
Great cafe with a lovely view of the bird feeders, we saw tree sparrows and reed buntings from the cafe. We didn't do the whole walk, but the hides had good views.
Nice afternoon out & if your a regular bird watcher worth joining, great main viewing area & café with lovely views over the water both sides of the footbridge. Bird feeding is at about 15.30 in front of main hide, nice walks around the wetlands in the better weather.
This is a beautiful and large site, very well organised with a range of activities throughout the year as well as well placed hides with books, telescopes and binoculars on place for those who haven't brought their own. The centre is comfortable and well equipped all in all everything has been thoug
Peaceful place with stunning scenery especially at break of dawn to see the swans. Extensive area, plenty of walks and a cafe present. Knowledgeable, friendly staff who genuinely care about nature and the welfare of the area. Great day out for all the family to learn about the swans.
A lovely place to visit with a variety of wildlife. We visited during winter and summer and was lots to see both seasons.
The long rocky road to the Welney Wetland Centre is an adventure in itself! Take it slowly to preserve your car suspension! A superb nature reserve awaits at the end however. Spotlessly clean facilities, very good coffee, friendly and helpful staff and a smashing selection of birds and dragonflies t
Gorgeous reserve, especially in winter and early spring, with the whooper swans and other wintering waterfowl. The heated main hide makes it great even in bad weather, and has excellent disability-friendly access too.
Brilliant place to visit, lots of hides with seating for watching the wildlife. Helpful, knowledgeable staff and the cafe had a great choice of cakes. Well worth a trip.
