The food was absolutely beautiful, the service was excellent in lovely surroundings. This is the reason we continue to come back. Thank you!

We had a lovey Valentines lunch at the WH, this is our second year of doing so. The only thing that both myself and my Fiancée was disappointed with was the coffee at the end of the meal. My Fiancée had a latte and I had an espresso, we both agreed that the coffee was the worst we had every had. Both drinks were extremely bitter and neither of us were able to drink any of it after the first drink. We didn’t complain and still paid for both drinks but we won’t be ordering coffee again if we return. After what was a super lunch, unfortunately it left us with a bitter taste in our mouth literally. Kind regards John Dean

Food was fantastic , service was a little slow but tables had been arriving late due to the Floods . Can’t wait to go back again :-)

We visited the Heifer using a 2 for 1 Travelzoo voucher for the Tasting Menu lunch. It was really good value for money. Five delicious courses with a raspberry sorbet before the roasted sea bass main. There is a very good wine list. We shared a half litre of picpoul de pinet which complemented the food wonderfully. As always, the staff at the Heifer were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. We left feeling very well fed and happy. A little gem in the Yorkshire Dales National Park!

Went today for Sunday lunch for my husbands birthday.Weather terrible but a very warm welcome on arrival at the Heifer. The staff are attentive, efficient and nothing is too much trouble. My beef Sunday lunch was delicious, gravy full of flavour, beef tender and a really good selection of vegetables. Exceptional roast potatoes! I was wary of the "wet salad" and not sure what to expect, but what a zingy little accompaniment that went so well with the dinner. Some of the veg could have been hotter, but a very minor gripe. My husbands fish and chips and creme brûlée also very much enjoyed too. Good selection of wines. not the cheapest eatery but I didn't begrudge a penny of it today. Can't wait to return! Well done team Heifer

exquisite food. caringly prepared and beautifully served. Not pretentious as some restaurants can be. It does seem to be the better the food the less the restaurant needs to show off, at least in the UK The food says enough especially when it is served in a considerate atmosphere.

Warm welcome, excellent service. Generous servings. Very Expensive starters Delicious bread rolls with Parmesan Smoked haddock chowder, flavour good but liquidised! Cider cauliflower sounded better than it tasted. Nidderdale lamb, had gone a bit cold & gravy juices a little vinegary. Classic fish pie v good

We stayed two nights. The food in the restaurant is memorable. My tip is don’t eat for a couple of days before you go. Themed rooms add a bit extra to your stay. We stayed in chocolate heaven. Large bowl of quality street at the end of a very large bath. Go for a walk along Leyburn Shawl to walk off the magnificent Yorkshire breakfast. The views down Wensleydale are magnificent.

Manages to deliver great food without being pretentious. A menu that has something to suit everyone and delicious desserts. Staff are lovely right from the time to call to book to waving you off. Relaxed and informal, yet at the same time well-organised and professional. Waiting staff are especially pleasant, seeming genuinely interested in helping you choose and asking whether you enjoyed your courses. There may be several smarter, more expensive, high-end establishments in North Yorkshire, but this is a real favourite.

It has been a while since we were last here and once again had a delicious meal, as always very accommodating with my gluten free needs, not a problem at all. Friendly welcoming staff, excellent service.

Having heard good things about this restaurant we booked a night in one of the themed rooms to celebrate my husband's birthday earlier in the week. We opted for the 'Night at the Movies' room at a special offer winter rate that included dinner on the evening we arrived and a full Yorkshire breakfast the next morning. The car park is situated behind the restaurant and while it is great that there is off road parking I was glad that our car beeps to tell us when it is close to a wall! The entrance is narrow and our car is perhaps larger than average. We got through the opening and found plenty of space to park. The pub and restaurant are in one building and some of the themed bedrooms are next door. There are pleasant outdoor areas behind the pub which would be nice to sit in during warmer months. Staff could not have been more welcoming. On arrival we were taken to our room where all of the special features were explained. We were assured that if we needed any advice during our stay we only had to ask but in fact the presentation was comprehensive and we had no need of additional help. Our Night at the Movies room included choux buns on arrival and then soup in the bar once we had unpacked our bags. The soup was a welcome touch and very good, we started to get really excited about dinner and enjoyed reading the menu while we sat next to the log fire. I was slightly disappointed that my husband found the soup better than a similar version I make at home! Back in the room we found fresh apples, popcorn in abundance, a box of handmade chocolates (thankfully my husband said that mine are better)! A small kettle and a thermos of cold fresh milk are provided together with tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Thankfully the coffee wasn't 'instant'. A huge bed was comfortable and warm with plenty of pillows. The key feature of this particular room is a large television and 3D video player. There is a good collection of 3D films to choose from together with a large shelf of 2D films for those who don't enjoy wearing 3D glasses. We had taken our own film as we don't have a 3D tv any more so it was a good opportunity to watch an old favourite after dinner. We decided to eat early so that we could watch our film before falling asleep. It was a pleasure to find nicely dressed tables in the restaurant: linen cloths and napkins and fine glasses. The 'ultimate gin and tonic' was a good aperitif and my husband enjoyed a beer. The menu is extensive and despite the location of the restaurant in the midst of the Yorkshire Dales it specialises in seafood. On grounds that we can never get through three courses we opted for a main dish and pudding. We both went for steak and we each decided that these were amongst the best steaks that we have ever eaten. Battered onion rings were light and crispy and the fat chips were perfectly fried. The celeriac and truffle puree added both flavour and texture; the portobello mushroom was perfect as was the roast shallot confit. Difficult to imagine a better main course. Despite the copious main courses we decided to press on and enjoy pudding. We very much appreciated the option of a 'taster platter' and were happy to wait the 20 minutes for this to be prepared. It was impossible to finish the selection of generous 'miniature' desserts! Of particular note were the baked Alaska, the lemon posset, the creme brûlée. All of it really. The only thing missing from the selection was perhaps a chocolate option. I would perhaps swap the knickerbocker glory with a chocolate mousse or similar but the selection we received was very much enjoyed. Our room in the neighbouring building was quiet through the night and the bed was very comfortable. The bathroom is well equipped with all one needs for an overnight stay and I particularly enjoyed the quality of the towels. Underfloor heating in the bathroom was very much appreciated. There is a hair dryer in the room. Despite a large dinner we looked forward to breakfast on waking next morning. We don't often have opportunity of a cooked breakfast and so determined to take advantage on this occasion. Each breakfast is cooked to order making it possible to have exactly what each person wants to eat. We both found every element of our breakfast cooked to perfection. There are cereals, yoghurts and fruit for those looking for a lighter option. On checking out we were presented with a small pot of chilli relish and a cuddly lamb to take home. Staff were helpful and unobtrusive throughout and we will certainly visit again.

Really disappointed, I get that pubs reduce hours in the winter months but surely if you have all the staff in why turn people away for food so early? We had been staying in Aysgarth and wanted food the Wensleydale Heifer has such a good rep we couldn’t not call. It was 2.15 and the kitchen full of staff, but unfortunately the kitchen had closed. Personally I’d grab all the custom I could at this time of year.

The quality and variety of the seafood dishes here are great. White linen tables and very good service. Very good wine selection. Worth a drive from anywhere.

Absolutely fantastic food and service, never disappoints. Gift voucher for my birthday from my son, just a month after my birthday, I usually celebrate at the Heifer on New Years Day my actual birthday but couldn’t make it on the day this year. We have a holiday home at Chantry so often pop in for a drink or a meal. We love it 💕💕💕😊xx

We have been to the Wensleydale Heifer for the last few years twice a year, we have never been disappointed. The hospitality is very friendly like being with the family while remaining professionals. We have been on the gourmet days which are fantastic Vince and his wines followed later by a 5 course tasting dinner just haven. I fully recommend a stay at the Wensleydale Heifer.

This is the third time we have been for Sunday lunch and it is still absolutely delicious. It takes us over an hour to get there as we live near Chester-Le-Street but it is well worth the journey would highly recommend. Staff very lovely & friendly too.
