The George & Dragon

Lovely spacious, clean and well furnished room with ensuite. All the radiators were on when we arrived, but we could turn them off and were provided with a Dyson Cool (without the remote). Very warm and stuffy on 1st floor corridors. Breakfast good, great to have on-site parking, and even though our room was at the front we were not bothered by the traffic. A good place to stay 🙂

We stayed here for our 1st wedding anniversary and it was INCREDIBLE! We can’t fault the service, the room was spectacular I’ve never seen such a big bed in a hotel! They included a Dyson fan in the room to help with heat! It’s in a prime location, loads of restaurants around it and parking was easy. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Visiting from abroad for wedding, stayed two nights. Rooms are modernized, generally well fitted; ours was quite small but sufficient (and inline with expectations). Staff was friendly and the included breakfast was good. Overall a pleasant and would return. Did not get a chance to visit the pub but it looked welcoming.

Haven't visited this pub since the pandemic, but goodness what a transformation to the rear of the pub! Lovely conservatory area installed to create a great bright, light and airy atmosphere to eat in. Could be a bit of a sun trap in the summer so not sure how warm it will get. Food is well presented and tastes great. Would recommend. Toilets on the ground level, all accessible.

A nice pub, lovely atmosphere. Soaps and moisturiser in the toilets which is a nice touch. However a couple of odd things about this pub. Firstly, despite being draught beers/ales/cider and Guinness etc on tap, there is no draught soft drinks. So these have to be purchased by the bottle. The same for if you want a pint top (or shandy). No major biggie. One bigger gripe we had is the fact they charge 12.5% ‘service charge’ on what is effectively bar snacks. A small A5 menu was printed on a clipboard with 10 or so items to choose from. No note or mention of a service charge on this menu. Usually there is some sort of disclaimer at the bottom to advise of this charge. You have to order at the bar, and they bring it out. There are no starters, mains, desserts, drinks, coffees or check backs. So nothing really to substantiate this service charge and is very cheeky in our opinion, especially as it’s 12.5%! We ordered 5items which came to £33.47 with the service charge. A little steep for ‘bar snacks’. However, despite this, the food came out quickly, it was cooked well and was very nice. Our favourite which surprised us all was the cauliflower! Very nice. The best value item (we ordered) was the whitebait, generous portions comparatively.
