We are new to the area and have been here a few times now . Great atmosphere .The food is so good , the staff are always friendly and welcoming . Highly recommend this restaurant and pub !
We discovered the Chequers shortly after the current owners took over and it has been our go to place ever since.
The one thing that really stands out is the consistency no matter if it's a quiet Monday lunch or a busy Friday dinner, it is always excellent.
The food is first class with a seasonal menu using locally source ingredients, Service is always excellent and the staff genuinely seem happy to be there .
It's really hard to pick out a favourite dish as there is a great selection and we've never had a dish that failed to impress.
It is always spotlessly clean and the courtyard is lovely on a sunny day with comfy chairs and a well tended floral display.
If your planning on going it's worth booking as its reputation is growing but they are always accommodating to find you a table if you turn up on spec.
We walked in while exploring after moving locally. Tracy was very welcoming and had a chat with us. Had not expected to eat, but was drawn in by the smell and atmosphere. I had a three meat roast with pigs in blankets as a side. Really enjoyed it, I would the turkey was the best meat, the carrot puree was fantastic and fragrant, the stuffing, roast potatoes and greens all good. They gave enough gravy, which was great, as some places are a bit mean. Would we go back? Yes. Would we eat there again? Yes.
Had lunch here today and it was fantastic. As I am vegan, there is usually only one or two options when I go out to eat (especially for lunch) however here, I was spoilt for choice! We were served by Matt and someone I didn't catch the name of but appeared to be a manager or supervisor. Both were incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was amazing and were good portions, too. Food and drink quite pricey but worth it!
Popped into this old pub for Sunday roast as we were passing through the area. We were seated next to a lovely couple. Food was of good quality, we could not eat all our roast. The puddings looked amazing.
We will be back one day with friends
Had a lovely meal. Staff was friendly and helpful. Had a great time. Food was perfectly prepared.
i love the owners of the restaurant/pub because I've lived here my whole life. I am a rather fussy eater and i love the burgers 10/10 would recommend. My entire family like eating there and the food. The staff are always polite and understanding. Also good access for wheel-chair users btw. The interior and exterior is pretty and it feels cozy both inside and outside. I recommend coming here.
We were passing through today and after reading such great reviews we thought we'd pop in for lunch. The lovely friendly blonde lady said that they were fully booked for lunch (always a good sign!) but said she would fit us in & did find us a table for myself, friend & my daughter, she said the wait may be a while but not too long. The food came out much faster than expected and was hot, fresh and delicious, all of the staff were very attentive and made sure we were happy. I had the gammon (more chips were under it which you can't see in the photo) my friend & daughter had pizzas which are freshly made from scratch, his only opinion was a bit more seasoning/flavour to the pizza sauce. We'd definitely come back though, lovely pub with beams and a well looked after pretty outdoors area. Thank you!
Ordered from the Lunchtime Menu. The food was very good and the Service was excellent as well. Lovely pub with rear parking and a nice adjacent courtyard. A biggish pub/restaurant-but very cosy eating and drinking areas. Definitely worth a visit.
Haven't visited for a while and previously had a really good Sunday lunch experience. It's not the biggest car park, just for note. Attractive building and looks well maintained. It was nice to see a range of meats offered. I had roast pork. My partner had turkey and was underwhelmed. Roast potatoes not really roasted. Ordered a side of cauliflower cheese and this was a bit bland. I remembered the restaurant being a lot busier before, and it lacked a little something in atmosphere. Everyone who approached the table was polite but personal engagement was missing. Denise wanted more cranberry sauce and it was waiting to gain someone's attention rather than awareness of staff. It was a meerkat moment.
A little underwhelmed and so we left to go somewhere else for desert.
I would go back and try their evening menu as it looked to have had some interesting dishes, it just won't be in my favourites list.
Had not been to The Chequers since pre covid & even though restrictions are relaxed, the pub felt very covid secure with waiting staff wearing masks or visors. Cutlery all in individual bags, hand sanitiser dotted around at intervals & good spacing between diners which I like regardless, dont always want to have to listen to people's conversations.
The menu was varied so should cover most people's taste even a vegan menu which was very good as at most places you're lucky to be offered one vegan dish. Portions we're generous & food was piping hot. The staff were attentive & friendly.
There's a good size outdoor area ,equally as comfortable as inside. There is a carpark but it's not huge & could be a little tight if you have a large vehicle.
All in all a very pleasant evening.
My first visit here this evening, the staff were really friendly and welcoming the food was delicious and we will definitely be back. Well done!!
