Driving down from Northumbria to Essex, we decided we couldn't pass Whitby and not visit. I looked up fish and chips and we chose The Fishermans Wife. Great choice. The small haddock and chips was perfect for me (the batter really light and crisp), and step mums fish pie was, she said, delicious. The rhubarb cheesecake was also really tasty...not too sweet, and very light. The only downside was the noise from the kiddies roundabout outside the window which was a bit intrusive, but there were plenty of other tables we could have sat at away from the window.
Called in for late lunch yesterday - we chose a whole lobster in garlic butter and king prawns to share with salads and chips and 6 oysters on ice - and a cold glass of wine - I’ve got to say it was the best and biggest lobster wev ever had !! Plenty for 2 people ! The only thing i would say is skinny fries would have gone better but I’m only mentioning that not as a complaint just a suggestion because it was fabulous
Had another weekend away in Whitby, just as storm Babet hit and this was a warm welcoming place to eat our tea, away from the wind and rain The Fisherman's Wife restaurant overlooks the sea so had great views of the stormy sea! We ordered fish and chips with mushy peas and Yorkshire fish cakes with salad, chips and sweet chilli sauce. Oh and of course a pot of tea each. Very tasty food with good attentive service. We have been here a few times now and have always enjoyed it.
The seafood here was super fresh. There are plenty of tables witha sea view but you better book in advance as this place is always full. The service was brilliant too.
If you want great sea food, this is the place to go to. Good portion sizes. Locally caught. Great value. For starter, I recommend the home made black olive bread with Mackrell pate and green olives on the side. Whatever you choose you won't be dissapointed.
I am visiting Whitby and we stopped by the Fisherman's Wife to experience new food and Restaurants.
The Staff was very very friendly and informative. They was also very patient with us when looking at food to order.
I haven't visited before but definitely will come back again.
Thank you to all Staff, Chefs and management for running such a wonderful establishment.
Thank you,
Aaron + David.
The food here is generous and excellent. We shared a portion of mussels to start, the sauce was wonderful, my wife followed with the prawn salad and I had the Queen Scallop linguine both fantastic. Throw in the sea views if you're in Whitby and enjoy seafood you have got to try the Fisherman's Wife.
The food and location are perfect! The specials board is regularly updated and I had a lovely salmon starter and traditional fish and chips. The mushy peas were particularly good and probably the best I’ve had!
Fabulous food again. It’s our go to fish restaurant in Whitby some great food and great views. Doesn’t arrive super quick, but was busy and worth the wait. Medium Haddock and Chips in the pic.
We had a fabulous experience at 'The Fisherman's Wife'. They catered for my wife's dietary requirements without any fuss and without any detriment to the quality of the food. They seated us at a big round table in a corner of the restaurant overlooking Whitby Harbour on a beautiful, Sunny, Spring day. We have been looking for a proper seafood restaurant for a while and decided to 'push the boat out' as it were!
We had the half lobster salad, dressed crab, mussels cooked in white wine and challots, half a dozen oysters and a bowl of chips. Everything was fresh, beautifully cooked and served and they also know how to brew a proper pot of tea.
All the dishes that came out of the kitchen smelt and looked delicious...the fish and chips looked particularly good....next time!
Can't recommend eating here enough, the food and service were superb, we can't wait to go back again.
