First time visiting and very nice food, cooked fresh! My wife had the Chicken and Mushroom pie and I had sausage and chips. My wife really enjoyed the pie and the sausage was freshly cooked. We both really enjoyed the chips. We used their self service EPOS screen to order our food and found it to not be very user friendly. But I observed the level of service that was given to people ordering at the counter and it was great so can't fault the service. Polite, friendly staff. Reasonable price when you consider other options in the area, also perfectly situated to bring in those customers that have just had a long drive and are you hungry!

With a lot of choice for fish and chips in Whitby, we chose fish box because it was affordable and appears to be very popular. The decor is nicely done and there is sufficient seating both inside and out. My wife and i decided to sit outside as we visited on a warm afternoon, it's just a shame that fish box doesn't overlook the harbour. Sadly the main road can be quite noisy and my dogs were put off by the busy traffic going past.
Staff are very pleasant and you can order either at the counter or self serve machines, which means you won't be waiting around to place an order. Staff are very accommodating, I even saw a man pull up outside in a van and they went out to take his order.
We have been to the fish box a couple of years ago, however the food tasted even better on this visit. My wife and I both had cod and chips and for the price you will struggle to find a better place to eat. Shame the tomato ketchup costs 30p for a small sachet, I would love to see this be complimentary.
In summary I would recommend Fish box to others visiting Whitby, the food is very fresh and you will receive a warm welcome.

The food was amazing! We passed lots of fish and chip shops in Whitby with massive queues, so we were dubious, but with a hungry 3 year old, we couldnât wait. We were not disappointed!
The fish and chips were huge and fresh, and the scampi the tastiest ever! Portions sizes were huge and reasonable prices for the size! Donât pass this place by! Xx

After travelling over 2 hours we stopped here for lunch. I ordered fish and chips, which was lovely as the fish was lightly covered in batter and the fish felt very fresh and melted in your mouth. The chips were good too.
You can either order at the counter, using an app or using a machine to place your order.
After I ordered they gave you a little device that buzzed when your order was ready to collect.
Didn't have to wait long and staff were friendly

Weddy and George are very welcoming food was excellent, plenty of seating inside or out, its not cheap but if you pay cheap you get cheap everything is fresh cooked and the scampi is the best I've ever tasted and well worth it. I'll be going back again Please give it a try it's well worth it đ. You can even buy food and walk a couple of minutes and sit on the harbour to eat. I have just Sean a picture of the menu the prices have gone up since that photo but still worth every penny

Good place, I always go for a battered sausage and chips, surprisingly cheap and delicious. Wish they sold cream soda along with their other drinks though...
If you order not close to meal time, the food might be a little less hot than I'd wish, but if you keep it safely close to lunch it'll be fine.

After walking Roseberry Topping the missus and I thought we could grab something from a chippy on the way home. As we were passing through Whitby we went searching and the Fish Box was the first we saw. With benches outside in the warm sun and parking surrounding the area it seemed ideal. Before entry there are menus outside which are clear to read and understand, however from the outset it seemed quite pricey, looking forward to a good portion and decent quality then, right?
Upon entry you could see they were running a somewhat Covid secure operation, with barriers up, waiting areas and even installed a tannoy system so you could understand what they were saying better through the Perspex screens. I ordered one of their âmeal dealsâ, which entailed a large fish, chips, sauce and drink, with the good lady ordering a sausage and chips with a side of sauce too. Once ordered we were handed a buzzer to let us know when the food was ready which in my eyes was a great idea- meaning people could wait on a bench outside rather than in.
The buzzer rang, food collected. No chip-spice.. whether this is something you can request I donât know, but nevertheless. The portion sizes werenât the best. The fish and sausage in fairness were an ideal size but there were only a handful of chips. Whether this is to move towards a healthier Britain, who knows?!
The curry sauce hit the spot, and the fish was cooked perfectly.
All in all decent, just MORE CHIPS!!

We bought a fish box meal which is fish, chips a choice of mushy peas, gravy, beans or curry and a drink. Great value for money. They were well cooked and tasted lovely. There are benches outside to eat them and we weren't bothered by sea gulls.

Very good tasting food, however the small fish are very small and not good value for money. It is worth paying the small extra sum for a large which is much bigger and is good value for money. Nice Decor inside and good, fast service. Overall very good, but not 5* due to a small fish being as big as a fish finger at a high price.

The service was dreadful, their idea of customer service leaves a lot to be desired. We order some chicken for my son, which they didnât bother to start cooking until weâd already waited five minutes, and then they didnât bother to serve it when it was cooked. When we questioned why we were still waiting they said they were waiting for chips, however I had watched them serve at least two more customers while we waited! There idea of dealing with this was to shout at us, and then give us a scrap of paper with a phone number on to complain to! Absolutely hopeless. Will not be going back. The food wasnât even that nice when it was finally served.
