While visiting the area the Anchor Inn was recommend by a local gentleman. We visited 3 nights in a row as the food was that good, the menu was varied and so tasty and good portion sizes that I cannot comment on the desserts as I was that full. The staff where friendly and polite, lovely atmosphere and background music. Definitely worth a visit

We had our family xmas meal and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were lovely, friendly and professional. The atmophere was amazing, so calm and happy and the organization was second to none. The starters were delicious, the meal was cooked to perfection , the puddings are to die for and the presentation was best ive seen in a long time. The whole day ran smooth and was a lovely happy day. We will definitely be returning again and highly recommend . Thank you to all staff for a perfect day ..

Great pub, and a good size. Inside is exceptionally smart, beams, exposed brick work and so on. A huge selection of food when we got there, a tough choice!! We chose wisely, as the food was ... superb in every way, decent portions with out being massive, the Guinness was spot on as well. They have a childrens menu (you need to ask), mid week it was busy, so worth booking. We had to check the bill, because it seemed too cheap for food of that quality, it was right. under 60 pounds for 3 drinks, 3 x mains (1 childrens menu) and starters. Excellent value and stunning quality.

Didn't stay in the hotel, just went for Sunday lunch. There is 14 of us so not an easy booking for them. Our meals were beautiful, as always. The only let down is one or two staff who are quite sultry. As long as you look past that it's a great place for food.

We visit here whenever we are visiting family in the area and love every visit 🥰 Dan and his team have always been exceptional in looking after us. The food is fantastic! Famous for its home made pies and hearty dishes, the Anchor Inn offers a fabulous range of freshly cooked food. With my wife and I being vegan, the kitchen team went above and beyond to cater for us (which we appreciate unreservedly) 🥰 The drinks selection is magnificent, the real ale is kept to an incredibly high standard, the wine is perfect, and there is an excellent range of low and no alcohol beverages (which is brilliant if you're the designated driver for the evening) 🍻 The rooms are wonderful, spacious, incredibly clean and have everything you could need or want, with views over the stunning surrounding countryside. Absolute luxury 🤩

Stayed here to be a Beacon when Hadrians Wall was illuminated. The food was fabulous then. Returned about 2/3 years later touring. The building has changed much bigger but the food, and the service haven't suffered it's still outstanding. Reasonably priced and Northern helpings! Don't wear tight waistbands!

Visited for Sunday lunch, good selection of traditional meats along with a selection of home made pies. I had leek pudding and mince dinner with seasonal vegtable,my wife had the leg of lamb dinner complete with a n extremely tasty Yorkshire pudding. Prices are really competitive. The Anchor Inn boasts spectacular views of the derwent valley.

Lovely traditional Sunday Lunch. Roast beef was very tasty & a lovely homemade Yorkshire pudding, would prefer a thicker gravy but that’s just a personal preference it was tasty all the same. Sundays they serve both Sunday Lunch & a regular menu. Service was friendly & it’s in a great location with a fantastic view.

If you like pie this is the place to come - they are home made and just lovely - served with home made chips too. There is a huge menu of other things to eat too. Nice ale and fantastic view - all in all a decent northumbrian pub - will definitely be back

Had dinner here, all of us had pies. Chicken & haggis, minted lamb and a steak and Stilton. All came with a choice of mash or chips and mushy or garden peas all with gravy. Portion sizes very generous roughly £15 each
