We had a spontaneous visit to this lovely quirky pub on a Sunday. I rang to see if I needed to book and got in 20 minutes later. It was myself, my husband and my little dog. (Dogs are very much welcome)
The place itself is a bit different! But in a good way. Very oldy woldy with charm. Cosy but spread out over 2 floors. The stairs are quite steep, so if anyone comes here with limited mobility then I would suggest asking to be sat downstairs. This wasn't a problem for me.
We were greeted by the lovely lady who took my phone reservation. She remembered my name and took us straight to our table. Drink orders taken fairly swiftly followed by our food orders. I was excited to try the roast dinners as they are my most favourite meal!
I ordered beef roast and my husband ordered pork.
Wow! We were not disappointed!! They were amazing.
My beef was thick and tender, as well as my husbands pork.
It came with 4 roast potatoes, 1 big strip of parsnip, cauliflower cheese, carrots and tenderstem brocoli. Along with a fluffy perfect Yorkshire pudding and a tasty stuffing ball. With a great amount of gravy.
I could not fault this.. it was the most perfect amount of everything.
All at a great price too! It was £13.95 for 1 meat or £15.95 for 2 I believe.
1st time here and we will definitely be back! The normal menu and the starters for the Sunday menu looked amazing too.
Thank you for a lovely meal.

Me my husband and friends visited this lovely little pub at Wickham yesterday Friday 28th January 2022, our friends booked it, we arrived and taken upstairs to our table, our friends were joining us.
The atmosphere was lovely and homely, we had a little button that you use to call for service, we ordered drinks and our evening meal.
Our food came at the appropriate time and looked very delicious and we took photos, the food was lovely and delicious no issues at all, and when we were done we ordered pudding, easy to call for service, our puddings looked lovely and delicious and of course they were.
Overall the service was excellent and the food was also delicious and excellent.
Highly recommended and we would come again.

Quiet, on a midweek lunchtime. Well kept beer and cider, good food. We had fish and chips, a big portion of both, chilli cheeseburger and a homemade beef burger. Desserts of lemon cheesecake and ameretti fool also very nice. Dog friendly throughout.

What a great pub. All that a 'local' should be; the regular customers mixing easily and in a friendly manner with visitors. A great range of drinks, cheerful, friendly service, competitive pricing, an historic building maintained well without destroying the 'old' atmosphere. A great 'secret' courtyard and a nice outdoor area to the front of the pub allowing customers to while-away-the-hours watching all that goes on in a very busy town square.
Recommend a visit ... even 2 or 3!

Updated August 2023. Sunday roast. Five people. And oh my. Huge plates of food, great tasting meat veg and yorkies. Great banter, kind people, good music, fun atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Originally...No-one does food on Mondays it seems except for a few places. So Serendipity took my wife and I to this place on a whim. A quick phone call whilst driving to check they did food, table sorted and job done. Chili prawn starter brilliant. Jan and eggs good, and the pie was fab: proper pie, crusty all the way round, a "sufficiency"of gravy, roast carrots and parsnips great and they were very easy swapping the mash for yummy chips. Parking easy... It's free after 1700 so no worries there. Nice place, nice people.

Popped in for a drink with family,
It was quiet in the bar area but didn't dull the spirits of the Waiter and Waitress behind the bar. Lovely service!!
Food smelled amazing and unfortunately we left it too late to try but will definitely be back!

Lovely friendly staff, nice food, tho we were a group of 10 so couldn't choose specials on the day (Sunday) (n sadly I don't do roast dinners) but the food was still excellent!

Delicious Sunday roast with generous helping of meat ( 4 good slices). Service was a bit slow but the meal made up for it. Friendly atmosphere with live music. Also very reasonably priced.

We were probably the annoying type of customers ordering hot chocolate to takeaway on a Saturday night in a pub… also asking for vegan milks and asking for extra hot as we had a long drive. And changing orders etc etc. However the staff member- sorry we didn’t catch his name- but he was maybe the manager was so warm and friendly. He cared for our drinks and explained that we should be careful because of the cups on our drive. On our recent travels we have encountered so Many unfriendly or untrained staff which can make the nicest interior designed place feel cold, unwelcoming and confusing. However in this authentic English pub, despite not particularly modern - we could have stayed for hours feeling comfortable and welcomed.
Thank you for this lovely experience! People make places! Please keep training and encouraging your staff to be this attentive and engaging.

Enjoyed eating here and it wasn't overpriced. The decor is different and the two mannequins sat at a table upstairs are a talking point. Very good.

With plenty of parking directly outside, there is ample opportunity to enjoy a pie and a pint at this large pub. Catering for visitors and locals this pub shares the trade with another just up the road. Both vie for trade with friendliness and warmth. Good competition and different vibes in both.

Wonderful decor of a restaurant overlooking the very pretty square of Wickham. A great menu with a choice for everyone.
Lovely friendly staff, quirky building but the food is absolutely awesome.
