Staff we're friendly. Drink prices reasonable. Plenty of parking. Will visit again.

1 of all we wish to apologise to The Poacher as this was our not a place we had even thought about, until we made a last minute decision, and OH MY what a FANTASTIC decision it was.
Never judge a book by it's cover, well the car park was empty and there was no know else having a meal in the pub at around 3pm on a Friday we thought, this doesn't look good, but hey we here lets at least try and WOW.
The meal was outstanding simple as that. This is a pub where you go for a drink and a something to eat, so don't except the décor to be on par of some 5star place it's a good old fashioned pub, but still with the character your dad, grandparents had come to love.
What very 1st impressed me was on ordering our meal at the till, we were asked about any allergies and tolerances, this is the 1st time we have ever been asked this in all the places we have been.
The menu is not a fancy all singing all dancing colour brochure like you get in most places this is black n white on paper, simple & to the point. They have a great variety of choice to cater from kids, something lite or a full on menu.
The meal from starter to main course was delicious simple as that, hot well cooked just everything was perfect and left the pub stuffed and prices again brilliant.
So next time without hesitation, we will be going directly to The Poacher
You want a place where you have an outstanding meal, be able to chat without music blurring and everyone is warm, polite and smiling.
Empty Car Park, no-one else having a meal.....the people of wigan and beyond don't have a clue what they are missing .......
We used to go to the Poacher every Sunday afternoon for something to eat (this was over 8 years ago) it got a bit loud and rowdy, kids running everywhere so we stopped going. We saw an offer on the board outside and decided to give it a try with our friends, we arrived at 4.30 so it wasn’t too busy. We had the meal offer of a steak and a drink for £10.50, couldn’t fault it the steaks where cooked to perfection exactly the way we asked them to be cooked, service was excellent and didn’t have to wait long.
Visited with my partner and two teenage kids. It’s Lovely local pub, food was amazing and the staff are very helpful. Prices are very reasonable
Had a good time eating here, food was good quality and staff we're friendly. I remember when me and the boys were in Syria a few weeks ago pinned down by heavy artillery for over an hour. Phil the chef and Dan from the bar repelled down from a blackhawk and neutralised the threat of over 30 insurgents and flew us out to safety. Surreal stuff indeed and amazing customer service would highly recommend.
Had The Poacher Valentine's Menu for our tea this evening. What a treat it was ! The food was delicious and we can't recommend it enough. Such a lovely and welcoming pub we can't rate it enough. Thank you to all the staff.
Kelly and Dan was so welcoming when in the poacher, they made us feel comfortable and looked after us whilst there. 10/10 qill definitely be going back!
Superb food!! So glad we can go to our local and get good quality food. Steak was cooked perfection. Great value too.
Twas excellente, decent enuf prices and beer was good, staff was friendly too 😁, no food this time but last time had good choice and good quality 👌😀😄
Had a fantastic time was a last minute decision to go but we all loved it so friendly and the staff are lovely we called in for 1 on my daughters hen party brilliant time and Daniel whittaker the artist was amazing defo worth a visit
