K-38 Baja Grill

The best place to eat in Wilmington! I recently visited Wilmington for a soccer tournament with my teenage son. A parent on our team recommended K38 for our team dinner on Saturday night. I called Friday evening on my way to Wilmington and spoke with the manager, Scotty. I explained we had a large party of at least 30 people and were hoping to eat at K38 since it was within walking distance of our hotel. Scotty asked me to stop in when I arrived from Raleigh, and he could show me what he had available and I’m so glad I did. He worked out seating for our whole party while keeping the main dining room open for smaller parties. He was so nice and professional! He even gave me a history of the restaurant as we talked. When I left, he sent me away with the best complimentary chips and salsa I have ever eaten, and I lived in Texas for 7 years folks! Saturday evening our party of 16 adults and 18 children (including 2 siblings under age 7) arrived at 6:30 pm. Scotty rushed out to greet us and personally made sure all our needs were attended to. He sat our 16 teenage boys in a small room to themselves and placed the adults on the outdoor patio. The service was exemplary, and Scotty couldn’t have been a more gracious host. I am not even sure how long we enjoyed the food, drinks, and atmosphere out there on the patio but we never once felt rushed. Scotty checked on us and our boys regularly and really made us all feel relaxed and welcome. I couldn’t ask for a better dining experience for a large crowd on such short notice! We totally felt as though our reservations had been made weeks in advance and that the entire restaurant staff was poised to welcome us, not that our reservation was made the night before and that the staff had to scramble to accommodate us! Of course, after our meal, Scotty sent us back to the hotel with more chips and salsa to snack on during our evening card games. Great food, impeccable host, and the perfect atmosphere! You cannot go wrong visiting this gem of a restaurant!

Got here around 4:15 for an early dinner... no wait & lots of seating. That wasn't the case when we left. Our server was wonderful...cheerful & attentive, even while training a new employee. Nice, casual atmosphere. Chips & salsa while you wait for your order. Very fresh tasting salsa. Our food came out hot & pretty quickly. I had a citrus shrimp taco...the cilantro-lime vinaigrette (served on the side) really made it pop. I added some of the vinaigrette to the black beans...oo-la-la, took it up a notch. All the veggie ingredients tasted fresh. Hubs had the original K38 fish tacos...a favorite that he always comes back to! There is a small outside seating area. Highly recommend, but get there early!

After all these years, this restaurant still has it! We hadn’t been there in about 2-years, but went back last week and it was still great. The Bowl was so much food and the fried fish was amazing. It’s definitely a restaurant that has a lot of great menu items - start with the guacamole! The restaurant was crowded and food took longer than anticipated, but it was spot on. I’d rather wait for better quality food, rather than have the kitchen staff churn out junk. I definitely recommend K38 (and all of its associated restaurants). We will be back!

Good luck finding better salsa. Their house picante sauce is also excellent and just the right combo of heat and sweet. I had the quesadilla on special, which happened to be jerk chicken. It was delicious! I didn’t get queso dip on this visit, but I highly recommend as well. Everything on the menu so far has been a winner. Tropical Lightning IPA on tap is a nice touch.
