I have been looking for somewhere like this for ages! I often visit friends in Devon from my home in Hertfordshire and wanted a nice spot for a lunch stop around the halfway mark. This fits the bill perfectly.
Location wise it’s just 2 minutes from the A303 halfway into the journey.
The pub has real character, the staff were friendly and there was a good vibe in the place. I had the Sunday Roast and it was excellent, perfectly cooked, tasty and generous.

Efficient staff and the food was stunning. Stopped on route to Heathrow from Devon. Kids were satisfied which isn't always easy! I particularly enjoyed the truffle hollandaise served with the steak. Thanks again! ❤️

A lovely country pub, really tasty food. It has been up for sale I think about 3 times since I moved here 5 years ago so I wonder if they do struggle for business. Recommend a visit

Sunday lunch with friends. We had a traditional Sunday lunch, but there was much more to be had on the menu. Food was good, service was excellent.

The 17th July was our wedding anniversary and as our daughter was here from Australia I was looking for somewhere special to have dinner out. We had passed The Old Inn a multitude of time and always said that we would eat there and never did until yesterday. Why didn't we go there before yesterday. The food was exceptional, the chef was a delight, my wife and daughter settled for a roast beef dinner, my wife before we were there did not have an appetite but once she had started, a mixture of the really friendly staff and the ambiance made her forget that she never had an appetite and she finished the excellent meal. The beef was cooked to perfection and not overcooked like so many pubs that we have frequented, our daughter too was really impressed. Me I went for the Roast Lamb Rump with all the trimmings which absolutely delicious. The staff were so attentive we forgot the time and I surprisingly washed down my dinner with a well kept Otter beer (3 to be precise) and Ali and Maria washed there's down with 2 half's of Henry Weston cider, again well kept. This Inn is located in a quiet village. I cannot praise the staff enough, thank you for a memorable dinner.

Wow! Probably one of the best Pub lunches I’ve had. Great menu perfectly executed.
Very busy, squeezed us in at the last minute. Very good and friendly service.
Best Scallop starter I can remember. 3 of us, all had something different. All very good.
Will be going back very soon to try something else. Seemed like they had a very good team working well together. Very well decorated, quite quirky. A lot of thought and care has obviously gone into it.
My compliments to all those involved. Everyone should try it if you like good food.
Very well stocked bar, nothing too much trouble.

Amazing service, personable, polite and helpful. Good food. Lovely setting. I loved the salad. Big Yorkshire puds. Really good gravy and they gave us extra when we asked!

Spontaneous lunch on a long journey! What a pleasant find. The server was friendly, thoughtful and polite, the locals were helpful and it feels as though they have thought of everything where ever you go in the building.
The food was delicious and catering for gluten free was an easy and smooth transaction, that was thoroughly appreciated!
I feel this will be a regular for us from now on. Thank you very much guys.

Perfect stopover for a meal and return needed. We were on our way to Exeter and i was looking for somewhere to stop to break up the journey and ensure we didn't eat to late. We rang on our way to see if we could get a table, found it quite easy and there seems to be a fair few out in the car park now arranged for the ubiquitous social distancing seating. We were shown the dining hall but whilst beautiful we were the only ones, we asked if we could site in the bar area. Partly to save her shuttling back and forth but no doubt more people would be in. But glad we sat in the old bar, menu was vibrant, we were reading about the chef and his take on local sourced produce and showcasing it. We tried the sourdough and mushroom's and their runny scotch egg with mustard. Just so much flavour, seasoned well. This we felt was not going to be a quick stopover. We ordered the local sourced beefburger and bacon, and vegetable wellington. As a meat lover the bacon was not a slice but slabs of generous salty fatty goodness. The burger was delightful not overcooked and dry but moist. Homemade coleslaw and generous fries. My partner enjoyed the wellington lots of tasty vegetables. by now we were hooked and still not electing to leave chose a dessert to share their mini doughnuts and coffee. Not a cheap stopover but such friendly staff and good food, why rush. We knew we get there just later. We looking forward to visiting there in March 2021 when we now stay in Wincanton and can jump in a taxi over.

This is such a lovely pub! Staff are very welcoming and friendly and the chef/owner is always jolly and chatty! They serve great food and now serving fresh pizzas from their outside pizza oven, I haven't had the chance to time one yet but they look amazing. We stop in regular for drinks and have never had a bad experience.
