Sorry Kevin, I think you've been had! The car park is not a pay-and-display. I think it might have been a long time ago, but not anymore...although the metes are still there. The staff don't expect you to use it, and it isn't monitored.
We visit this pub every Wednesday afternoon for our 'little Saturday' pint. The staff are fantastic! So welcoming! My partner and I are not Wolvites originally, and have had comments about our Welsh accents elsewhere, but at the Royal, we were welcomed and made to feel at home straight away. Our initial impression was that perhaps it was a biker pub, judging by the number of bikes in the car-park...and now looking back, even though the pub appeals to aging hippies and weathered mechanics, it is not nearly rough enough to make it a biker pub.
They have a dog in the pub, the gorgeous Major...however he will probably only come over to you if you have the pork pie. ;)
The beers and largers are cheap, although a shame they no longer stock Stella. And the wines are the best for price too.
At the end of the day, being as me and my partner are from the Welsh hills, and find great appeal in quiet pubs with a friendly, yet serene atmosphere, and a great beer garden...The Royal Oaks suits us down to the ground!
And they even have gigs when the weather is nice....we're just waiting for the introduction of Jam nights, then we truly will become devoted fans!
Dropped by last Friday with a friend. Previous visit was in the 80's during college days! Was greeted to a friendly welcome & ended up staying longer than planned. A great selection of beers, all served at the right temperature & in the correct glasses! Limited space inside but there was plenty of covered space outside. Overall, still felt cosy and had a great vibe. Will be visiting again. Definitely recommended.
This pub is an excellent addition to the area and has always improved year on year. The ale and beer selection is second to none and you can always get an excellent drink at your request. Jess is a fantastic barmaid and ho has fantastic charisma and is always friendly and welcoming. I will be returning soon as the atmosphere is superb and the clientele always welcome newcomers with open arms!
Fantastic traditional pub with top class beer, music and a warm welcome. Called in on a Tuesday evening and there was an open mic on. Definitely worth a visit.
My first visit to this great pub. Loads of folks in there on a Friday evening enjoying each other's company. Chivalry is also alive and well here. Two gentlemen gave up their seats so my wife and I (in our 70s) could sit down.
The beer was on song too. I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Thanks to all at The Royal Oak, we will return
Great atmosphere. Real pub but packed! Great to see all members of a community talking together and not sitting on their phones.
Emelye Evans was singing so absolutely superb evening!
Love this pub! Always a warm welcome from the team. Mollie and Lottie are amazing bar staff and definitely keep you entertained throughout your visit. Could not recommend Royal Oak enough, a lovely traditional pub in Wolverhampton, a real gem. You would regret not popping in when in town for sure!
Exceptional beer, east to see why the pub is busy with knowledgeable staff who care about what they sell. Amazing array of crisps and savoury snacks, only marked down as the toilets didn't match the standards set in the rest of the pub.
Lovely pub! Great atmosphere
Lots of thought into their events!
Live music in a good sized beer garden
Mollie and lottie are friendly staff and always up for a chat :)
