The Farmers arms is well furnished with a lovely atmosphere. The food was first class, extremely tasty and rather exquisite. Toby the chef is only 25, from our understanding and has a bright future ahead of him with food at this standard and would give Rick Stein a run for his money. Our waiter jack was extremely friendly and made our night perfect. We sat in the extension area in the rear, which is stunningly nice, however a slight draw back was the opening/closing of the door straight into the eating area on a chilly evening.
We had a lovely experience here as a family on holiday in North Devon. The food was just perfect - bistro-style, with a relaxed atmosphere. This place offers locally sourced, fresh, non-pretentious, hearty food cooked with real care. All the portion sizes are excellent, and the flavours are so delicate. The waiters were so friendly, and no one seemed to be in a rush. It's also pretty reasonably priced for what it is.
It was on our way to South Wales from Cornwall that we popped into this fantastic place. The staff were so friendly, and the service was impeccable. This place offers a great culinary journey. I especially enjoyed the vegetables and herbs from their garden. Every single bite was tasty.
A beautiful traditional Devon pub. The interior decor is fantastic, there is a good selection of beers/ales. The staff are on the ball and very attentive. The food is of a very good standard and this is reflected in the prices.
Fifth or sixth visit here now and it’s always incredible. The staff are friendly and relaxed but also hugely attentive. The manager knows what he’s doing and how to make people feel welcome.
It’s a lovely pub just to have a drink and a chat too - have the homemade crisps and dip to go with it.
On this last occasion though it was for dinner, we were sat at a lovely table in the new barn section and the usual exceptional service was provided. The seasonal soup was delicious and well seasoned followed by the cottage pie whilst my partner had the pork belly. Awesome presentation of all of the dishes. This was true too for the custard tart which wasn’t overly sweet so you could taste the variety of strawberries on the dish. A great evening had by all and can’t recommend highly enough.
We had a weekend away planned to celebrate my father in law's 80th birthday. The pub was close and the reviews were good.
We got there early, the waitress friendly drinks and food ordered in good time. I had the shepherd's pie and the Caramel dessert. The food was exceptional, I could not imagine it better. It was highly evident that someone in the kitchen cared deeply as presentation and flavours were just about as good as you can imagine. The sorbets were almost unbelievable each one unique and bursting with flavour.
This could easily be a 5 star rating but there were two issues, the first we waited an hour for our main course, understandable as the food was so good but maybe a little warning would help. When we got there it was quiet. The second issue was more disappointing, despite the face that we had explained most were vegetarians there was no vegetarian option for the children, a big oversight..
Would I go there again? Absolutely, the drive is 90 minutes from our home but for a treat we might just, we would certainly eat there again if we were close. It was exceptional food that you rarely get these days.
But please give the children an option they would love too
Superb. Staff are exceptionally welcoming and friendly, the food is absolutely delicious and the building & decor is wonderful. What a wonderful place, we will be back!
A beautiful little gastro pub in the middle of a small village where a friend and I had rented a cottage for the week. Honestly, some of the offerings were above my level (I had to Google to determine what some things are), but opting for the full portion of fish and chips was a great choice! The servers were above and beyond any expectations, the food was delicious, and the price quite reasonable.
We came here but unfortunately they were fully booked for food although they tried extremely hard to fit us in! The staff are amazingly friendly and efficient! I witnessed the staff asking for a person's order while filling a dog bowl of water so the dog drank first! Absolutely would recommend! Just sorry we wasn't efficient enough to book before we turned up! And just to add what an amazingly clean and impressive building it is!
Will definitely book next time
Such a beautiful place to eat. This restaurant is for people who appreciate food and exciting culinary experiences. I had such a delicious meal here. As a veggie there was only one option but it was absolutely fantastic so no stars lost, but it is always great to have a couple of choices as a vegetarian. Something to consider :)
The staff were so friendly and took very good care of us, we had a wonderful time.
Some of the 1 star reviews made me laugh!! “Odd food”…. Basically not boring usual pub food!!! Don’t come here if you’re unadventurous.
