Pepe's Pizza

I would give this review one star if it weren’t for the cannoli dessert. It was probably one of the better cannolis I’ve tried. The pizza was also good, nothing special really just a little salty. For appetizers we got french fries, the stacked eggplant, and the bruschetta. The fries were actually very good but similar to bowling alley fries (aka good and salty). The bruschetta tasted burnt and the tomatoes tasted like nothing, also I don’t know if anyone there went to culinary school but the onions for it where chopped so poorly it was uncomfortable to eat. The “eggplant” was probably the worst part of our meal. There was zero eggplant in it. Like absolutely nothing. It just tasted like a stale salt less uncooked fried dough in equally unsalted red sauce. It was so awful. Also they didn’t have lemonade as a drink option, only alcoholic drinks and Pepsi products. They also served all of their sides like ketchup or red pepper flakes in small plastic containers which was an utter waste of plastic and disappointing to see they couldn’t take the extra effort and replace it with reusable glass containers like the use for the parmesan cheese. We called im advance as well to make sure we didn’t need reservations and the person on the phone said today it was “walk in only” but when we arrived the first thing we were asked is if we had a reservation and that the wait would be about 20 minutes. Overall I will not be coming here again.

This place was my hope, but now I just can’t. The first pizza picture is what I got, the second is what they use to give, and for the price you think you would ALWAYS get the better of the two. The girl who picked up the phone when I complained was absolutely rude, and an lacking in intelligence. When I said there is no cheese on the pizza she told me “there’s no cheese on a margarita pizza anyway, there’s only fresh mozzarella balls.” WHAT?!?! She also told me the manager would call me back. This was two weeks ago. After the call, I received devastating news about my family and had to leave town and realize today that they never called me back. Look at the first picture of the pizza - it’s like a flat, pathetic excuse especially for the price, and they don’t care about customer service either.

The pasta was some of the best I’ve ever had as well as the antipasto however everything else was not the best. The pizza did not taste good and wasn’t anything special (we got half cheese half pepperoni but they came out all pepperoni) and we didn’t complain about it because the service wasn’t the best. The hostess was nice and let us sit but supposedly the kitchen closes at 930 and closed in the middle of the time we were sitting so we got dinner but when we ordered dessert we were told the kitchen was closed which was unfortunate because the gelato and ice cream sounded really good. Our server was not good either, her and the rest of the staff decided to eat side while we were still eating outside. Service was not good at all and it’s extremely rare we get that. Maybe we’ll be back but hopefully we have a better server who will care.

I would like to say that Pepes is a truly family establishment. The service is amazing starting from the hostess who is all smiles to the wait staff who make sure everything is all set. You can find the owners walking around asking tables if they are all set every night. The ambiance is fantastic, and the food is truly great. My favorite is the shrimp scampi pizza.

There are many pizza restaurants in Worcester, yet few great pizzas. Pepe's contributes to this trend. The chicken BBQ pizza features a cloyingly sweet sauce, greasy cheese, poorly chopped onions, and chicken that was most likely frozen. For the price, I would have expected significantly better. The boneless wings were little more than frozen chicken fingers tossed in a bottle of generic sauce. A frozen pizza from the grocery store and box of chicken fingers would have cost a fraction of the bill and been as good if not better. There are far better establishments offering pizza in the city at comparable prices.

I had heard good things about Pepe’s so decided to order take out. I looked at their menu on their website and called in an order when they opened for dinner. I ordered the calamari appetizer and the veal parm dinner entree. The menu online said the dinner entrees come with a salad. When I called, the person taking orders said dinners don’t come with a salad. I said fine. When I got there 15 minutes later, the food was ready which was nice. However, the total was much more than I expected. When I told them that the prices on the menu from their website were less, they said that the website hadn’t been updated and that he’d let them know (the website has their new address and pictures but not their new prices). So essentially I got less food (no salad) and paid much more. Calamari was bland. Veal parm was good but not worth the price, didn’t even have bread on the side. I’m very disappointed and I won’t be going again.

It was a good experience thanks to our waitress Athena, other than that, The food was fine. Nothing to scream about. The new place is very loud and I suggest that they put pads on the bottom of the chair legs as they were making an awful racket . It is a great location and they are building an outdoor patio.
