Great experience at Mr Straw’s house today! We have a lovely little tour and we’re able to appreciate each of the rooms independently and peacefully. I would recommend this place. There is parking on site and staff are knowledgeable and friendly too. Beware that the steps around the house are steep.

What an interesting place, guide was informative. We hadn't pre_booked but we're lucky they had a cancellation. So pre-book well worth a visit. Like stepping back in time.

Intriguing, dark inside to preserve the interior,so if you have poor eyesight maybe not for you or if you have problems with steps and stairs. The family story is interesting, better with a tour guide I would think, no interior guide available when we visited but still enjoyable.

We've been a few times now and as always enjoyed viewing Mr straws house. Glad to see the tea section has been opened to have a cuppa inside with vintage music playing to set the atmosphere or you can have your drink in the gardens.only biscuits and crisps served no sandwiches. Guide meets and greets you outside giving us information before entering the house. Car park opposite the house which was once an orchard belonging to Mr Straw. Two outside toilets for the public

What a fascinating place, so much to see. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. Just a slight criticism about the lighting in the house, some rooms (and I appreciate why to a certain extent), are a little bit too dark and makes some things difficult to see as in finite detail. The volunteers are welcoming and very knowledgeable. Special thanks go to Becky who is a font of knowledge and very helpful, nothing too much trouble.

This house is owned by Straw’s family. The artefacts which they used were also shown in the house which is around 100years old.The entry fee is £8 pounds. There is enough parking space just opposite of the house. We can spend a lot of time here. This house will give us a little tour. The dress that is used in that period is also shown here, the house hold items and the artefacts that are used by the family.

An unusual edition to the National Trust properties, being a regular semi-detached house originally belonging to the Straw family from 100 years ago. The artefacts are regular everyday items found in houses in the 1920s to 1950s, including dumping rooms and areas that most houses have. It's surprisingly large for a semi house though, with the route through the house ending up in the neighbouring property where you start out (the reception and small shop and second-hand bookshop). You will need to book in advance as entrance is usually limited to 4 people per 15 minute slot, and currently only Thursday and Friday (this can change so check the website first and book). Once in the house, after an introduction, you can make your own way round and take as much time as you need. We found an hour was plenty of time to see everything. There is quite a lot of car park space right across the other side of the road in their own car park by the orchard.

What a fabulous house enjoyed looking round and learning about the Straw family. It's been left unchanged since they lived there in the 1920s and the stories of the two brothers(William and Walter) who lived there until their deaths the last being 1990 was astonishing. We spent some time upstairs with a lady called Sheila who actually knew the brothers from being a child she is amazing and told us lots of stories about the Straw family. A thoroughly enjoyable experience thank you to all the volunteers at Mr Straws House.

Pre booking essential. Well worth a visit very well organised, excellent volunteers and staff. Do hope the damp problem can be sorted and no items badly damaged.

A real hidden gem. I’m always drawn to the utility rooms in historic houses – they’re my favourites. The bathroom, kitchen and outside loo didn’t disappoint. The kitchen was fantastically spartan! I'd love to think the interior of our Victorian house once looked like this; having a super-trendy Tutankhamun-inspired stair runner. It’s incredible good fortune for us, and for generations to follow, that we have access to this time capsule. I think homes like this are more common than we realise but next to none get saved for us to experience an all encompassing immersion into how we used to live. The staff there were very knowledgeable and happy to answer my many questions. Including my preoccupation as to why a radio set wasn’t present. There is a reason…

A fascinating insight into the lives of a family from 100 years ago. Very little has changed in the house since 1923. A superb property cared for by the National Trust.

Great step back in time and fascinating, really good. Fantastic seeing all the Straw family items right up until the 80s & early 90s. If you like this try The Beamish museum, Northumberland too.

A fascinating time capsule well worth a visit. You do have to phone and book a time slot as there are very limited spaces due to the size of the property. A welcome step back in time for those of a certain age who will remember certain items either in there own house as a child or in their Parents home

Really like visiting here. Been a few times. Can relate more than with the stately homes. This was the home of the Straw brothers Walter and William and Mother Florence. They never threw anything out so there is a vast amount of everyday items to peer over (drugs, food, newspapers). The modern copy of the Axminster Egyptian staircase carpet is nice to see. The children did like it here. The guides are welcoming and knowledge. They have a small garden where cactus were grown and cream teas in the orchard at different times of the year. Would recommend a visit.

Very welcoming staff at this niche location in Worksop. The parking is opposite, in a lovley, green and quiet area of bliss. As you look at the two houses, the entry poi t for visitors is the left front door, where you'll find the reception area, shop and basic tea room. Toilets are out the back and accessed this way. Upon starting the tour, you are guided to the right front door, given a verbal script by one of the staff and allowed to enter. Once inside you are given a little history in the main reception room and left to continue the tour at your own pace. There are many rooms to explore and it took us about an hour to get around. The tour takes you through the straw's House, up in to the attic and then through back into the reception House, ending back in reception. There is seating in the garden and it's a lovely space to enjoy a tea break before setting off home.
