Food is always lovely - particularly the steak, mushroom and ale pie. Lovely cosy atmosphere inside and a great beer garden for the summer. We love to walk down with the dogs for food and a few pints.
Bizarre place ! I met a couple of mates here for a drink and none of us had been in for years. First of all I can't fault the venue or the staff buy the customers... It was pretty full at 8.00pm but by 9.30pm we were literally the only ones in ! and by 10.00 chairs were being put on tables !
Lovely country style pub with very good big portioned food. OP on tap is the best part for me. Living locally in Ingleby Barwick it’s the closest country feel pub. Haven’t seen the rooms so can’t comment.
I had my first Sunday lunch today, and have say it was perfect too. Gorgeous roast potatoes and perfectly cooked vegetables with four thick slices of roast beef, with a delicious gravy.

Better book in advance even if you go early! We didn't but we're lucky. Great meal of corn beef pie peas and gravy. Comfort food. Loads of other great options but that was what was recommended to us by a lovely couple who switched tables with us to allow us to try and hide or dogs away. Very happy f
