Great food and great service. This is a really friendly and relaxed restaurant with terrific food. Everything we ate (and drank) was superb and the kitchen sent our choices out in an order which made great sense. We will definitely be back.
Incredible food and a brilliant experience! Great value for the quality of the food. Highly recommend and would definitely return.
Absolutely amazing food and experience. Probably one of my favourite dining experiences to date .
Not only very tasty food but such lovely friendly staff. High quality and knowledgable service but not pretentious like in some restaurants of a similar standard.
We sat on the seats over looking the kitchen, I’m so glad we did, it only added to the atmosphere - the restaurant has such a gray buzz about it.
Great value for money considering the quality and service you receive. There wasn’t one dish we didn’t enjoy however the broccoli and cod were our personal favourites. Can’t wait to go back next time we are in the area.
We got the worst table I think, right by the door, next to a noisy bunch of people adjacent to us... and this was still the best dining experience we’ve had in a long time! It really was excellent.
The format of the menu is based around the (currently very trendy) ‘small sharing plates’ concept. Very often when we encounter this there are a few excellent dishes, plenty of good dishes, and a couple of miss-steps that make you wonder what the chef was thinking and leave you asking yourself if you’re a Guinea Pig for some poorly thought-out experiment! Not so at Skosh. Everything we ordered was excellent. Not one off note. The hen’s egg and the rarebit on a truffle crumpet we’re particular highlights, but the standard was first class throughout.
One thing that set Skosh apart from so many other places that adopt the sharing plates format, was the thought that went into the order in which the plates were served. So many times, in reputedly high quality places, the food arrives as soon as it’s cooked, and in no particular order. This results in either a glut of dishes at one time, or going from hot to cold and back again which doesn’t enhance the experience. At Skosh we ordered 7 plates between the 2 of us, and they had carefully thought out what would arrive first, what would pair up with another dish, and what would be best on it’s own. It’s not rocket science but it definitely makes a difference. The whole thing was casually paced and very enjoyable, as compared to those occasions where you can almost feel the staff stressing out about trying to get you served quickly in order to turn the table. A first class experience.
The staff are very friendly, helpful, and attentive without being intrusive.
This isn’t just worth going to if you’re in the area, this is worth travelling out of your way for.
Booked this for a birthday meal for my partner and it was simply incredible. Every dish was faultless. The broccoli was on a different level - the pork and smoked eel dish wasn’t far behind either. Service incredible, and great atmosphere. We recommend 7 dishes and a desert to share. Bon app the queef!
Simply amazing. The food was exceptional and expertly cooked. At first glance the menu might look a little pretentious to some but it’s such a brilliant opportunity to try new things and have them done well. Drinks and cocktails are also something that needs to be experienced (I recommend the smoked damson vodka).
The staff were helpful and enthusiastic. Will definitely be coming back next time.
Unusually, I hadn’t done much of a background search to Skosh for our night in York, my partner just thought it “looked my sort of place” so I was unsure what food to expect. I’m gluten free and he’s vegetarian and we often feel our choices are depressingly limited when choosing from a menu. This couldn’t have been further from the truth at Skosh. The gluten free options were pretty much the whole menu. The vegetarian choices sounded interesting on paper, in reality dishes were sublime : the most innovative of tastes and textures. Someone here really understands food. The staff, at all levels, knew about every dish and we’re throughly charming. Skosh, we were bowled over and will most definitely be back.
What an amazing place! Was recommended to us by a friend and I can see why. The food was sublime and beautifully presented. A good selection of small plates to share or slightly larger plates for 1. We shared a couple of dishes (pork fritters and dumplings) but had a hens eggs each. Then had the Char Sui Pork and Cod mains. Hubby had the savoury cheesecake (unbelievable delicious) and we shared the rhubarb doughnut. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Great service too.
Great evening. Sat at the bar overlooking the pass watching Neil do the dishes. Enjoyed every course we had (we had 7 between us). Can’t say which was the favourite as they were all really really nice. Not overpriced either.
Wow. The food here is amazing. I’ve eaten in some of the finest restaurants in the world and Skosh is up there. Service and decor also very good. Would highly recommend.
Had a wonderful 40th birthday meal at this incredible place! Second time I've been (just a tad too far from Liverpool to be my local!) but once again the Hen's Egg smashed it. Literally the most divine creation that needs to be savoured! Every dish was gorgeous in both flavour and texture and the only problem was not being able to finish every morsel but this was entirely our fault as ordered more than we could manage - the food was too good to miss out on! The staff are the loveliest bunch of professionals and they absolutely made our night. Two years after my first visit and it was as fun, friendly and mindblowing as it was then. Just incredible.
We've dined regularly at SKOSH since it opened around 4 yrs ago. It's more than worth the journey up the M62 from Junction 21. Fantastic that we always get to sit at our favourite table: surroundings are comfortably top notch: food is amazing & beautifully presented every time. Neil creates & produces (with his Team) the most awesome plates of food and is always there to have a friendly chat; his staff are extremely friendly, helpful & knowledgeable. See you soon Emma -- we'll let you chose our next plates of divine food. Kathryn & Colin.xx
Great place, Fantastic again, can’t fault any of the dishes we had, and we had a good few :) can’t wait to come back.
Asked my son to book a table at one of his favourite York restaurants, and I’d pay the bill as a treat. He chose Skosh, and all I can say is “thanks son”, because all three of us (Mom, Dad, son) benefitted from his present. The food, service and menu were a class apart from its rivals in York’s fast expanding eateries.
I’d struggle to say which dish was my favourite out of the nine we ordered but I can say without hesitation that each and everyone combined to make it the best meal we’ve ever shared in York, and that’s at least twice per month over the last 7-8yrs.
Skosh also has a quite unique and vibrant atmosphere. i don’t know how they create it, but I haven’t found it anywhere else, and it definitely contributes to the overall eating experience.
Cost including drinks and every course on offer came to around £180 for 3 of us, and I considered that exceptional value given the quality of the food and service. As for my son, he simply said “best present I could have wished for” and that always makes paying the bill that much sweeter.
My only recommendation regarding the menu is simple; try ones you’ve not had before or never even heard of. It could have been risky; it wasn’t. It was a small leap of faith that this restaurant fulfilled thanks to the quality of the ingredients, the skill of the cooking and the exceptional presentation of every course.
If next year’s treat is better than this one, then Skosh has a serious rival or we’ve probably returned for more of the same.
Excellent food, exceptional service.. would like to see a stronger wine selection to really top everything off!
We went here for my husband’s birthday and it did not disappoint. Staff were friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. We had six plates between us that were paired really well and timed perfectly so that we were not overwhelmed . Each dish was a mini masterpiece with flavours that had length and depth. We could not resist the puddings and the rhubarb and custard dessert was excellent.
There is a short but comprehensive wine list and we enjoyed a lovely Riesling and a red from Uruguay .
Would definitely return if back in York
Lucky we had the opportunity to book a table today whilst on a business trip to York.
I honestly don’t need to leave a long and gushing review as this is very simple.
Thank you guys.... you know who you are who made our meal so special today your a credit to Skosh.
Wish we had you in Cornwall.
Wonderful food in great surroundings. Small dishes that are ideal for sharing. Lost of wonderful tastes. Would recommend getting there soon as this place will get more and more popular, already highly rated. Won’t be your cheapest night out but we’ll worth it given the quality of the food, good wine as well.
Very good and well informed staff that give good advice / information and every dish.
We visited Skosh for a belated wedding anniversary. I had seen very good reviews and was somewhat intrigued by the description of the food.
We sat at the counter surrounding the kitchen area which I heartily recommend. It gives a real insight into a professional kitchen. It was also great to see it stress free with people, seemingly enjoying and taking real pleasure in their work.
The first surprise was the menu. My wife has severe allergies that mean eating out is awkward. I had let the restaurant know in advance, expecting them to point out a couple of dishes deemed safe. No. We had our own menu, with all the kitchen knowing the issues. Here we were in very safe hands.
As to the food, well, brilliant sufficiently describes the flavours. The menu is made up of a lot of light and small dishes, a bit like tapas. All the mixtures of flavours were superb, we had 6 or 7 different dishes and each was superb. Special mention to the hens egg (hands down, the best dippy egg and soldiers you will have) and the pork and smoked eel.
The service was fantastic. All in all, I can't recommend Skosh enough, a must visit and worth the wait to book a table.
Fantastic birthday meal, book a table by the kitchen to get the full skosh experience. Hens eggs were incredible. Novel way of ordering food was refreshing and added a different dynamic to the meal. For the quality of food received the price is fantastic! @MANGETOUTOFUS
