Can not recommend this place highly enough. Booked a table for 16 for lunch and could not pick a fault at all. Excellent service. Unbelievably good value set menu and really lovely food. A really great find and will definitely revisit next time I go to York. First rate

We visited for the 1st time yesterday for lunch on my daughter's 21st and booked for lunch on her graduation day before we left! Don't think I've ever rebooked a restaurant so quickly!
Fabulous food, with friendly service from well trained staff who achieved the perfect balance between unrushed and attentive.
We ate from the set menu and couldn't fault it - even the professional chef in our group was very impressed! Between us we enjoyed French onion soup, mushrooms, steak, confit duck, boeuf bourguignon, crepes, tarte au citron and a great house champagne...and it was all delicious!

Inside there isn't an over the top theme and it's doesn't look Michelin Star clean and minimal, it's homely and warming - just like it's food. (If you ignore the naked woman painted near the staircase) The set menu has a good variety of choices from the a la carte menu and SMS and I noted that it comprised most things we would have chosen from the a la carte menu too. The set menu is either two courses for £12.95 or three courses for £14.95 but there is no pressure to decide if you want dessert from the onset.
Decided to try booking a table last minute for a Thursday night, and managed to get squeezed in around 9pm. Seems like a really popular place, it was full. The service was good, friendly chatty waiters that let us get on with enjoying our meal. And the food itself was excellent. Wonderful starter of scallops with celeriac puree; the pork belly in a nice jus was some of the best I've tried. Hopefully it won't be long before I can come back.
Amazing French cuisine, delicious food and friendly staff. The set menu had a great variety of choices, you would definitely find something you want. All the dishes we had was so well cooked made me think I was in France. Would surely come back next time I am in York!
Lunch with no reservation, was sat thoughtfully upstairs in case someone mobility challenged needed ground floor seating. Had french onion soup and sautéed mushrooms and a glass of wine. Both dishes good. Sat in a upstairs room alone, most were in the next bright dining room, multiple seating areas.

We went for a birthday lunch and had
Crab cake starter, french onion soup ( so much lovely gooey cheese,) and goats cheese bruschetta and for mains, vegetable tagine, confit duck with dauphinoise potatoes and burger for my daughter. All scrummy.
Desserts were creme brulees for 2 of us and the total bill was less than £90 with a drink each.
Absolutely amazing food the set evening menu is great value for money. As others have said The French Onion Soup is a must have - the best I have ever tasted! The resturant was really busy on a Thursday night, so highly recommended to book ahead! I had the chicken off the set menu and was fantastic! Will visit again when I am in York

The highlights were definitely the starters as they just tasted amazing 😋 service was great too
The only thing was the crème brûlée, the texture was slightly too creamy and a lot sweeter than I expected (from what I knew should be from my dining experience in France)
Despite this it was a really nice experience overall and I enjoyed my meal here :)
Loved our night there. We went for my partner’s birthday and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel at home, which was lovely. The food was very good with sizeable portions for the combo 3 course deal. Loved the mains, had the confit de canard and the pork - both delicious and filling. Will be back again, just gotta save some coins first!!
Amazing service and delicious food in a cosy restaurant! I love their appetisers, onion soup and mushrooms are amazing! For main courses, we went for mussels and crab&prawn linguine, i love the mussels! A big huge pot definitely fills you up! Brilliant service from the staffs as well!
Absolutely in love with this restaurant serving French classic. Every single dish we had was flawless. We'll put it on our "must eat in" restaurant list. The photo doesn't do justice to the flavoursome escargot in garlic butter sauce. If you are in York don't miss the "Rustique".

Food and drink order was taken quickly (not rushed) and all were delivered in a timely manner.
Food on the Fixed Price Menu, 3 courses for £25 was excellent.
