Came across Spring Espresso after looking for somewhere to have a drink, as it was pouring it down. Nice layout and wasn't too busy when we went in, managed to get near the window which was a great spot to people-watch. I didn't have anything to eat, so I cannot comment on that part. But it seems like a great place to relax and catch up with friends, or simply take the weight off your feet a little, as you watch the world go by. šš»

Had breakfast here and went for cake and coffee also. Breakfast is strong and coffee is just as strong. They don't do syrups for the coffee so a very purist cup of coffee for those that enjoy it.

The coffee roast is good, with a nice flavour without being too strong. The cakes are good too, we arrived too late to try the other food. If you are used to coffee chains, you may be disappointed with the size of a "large" coffee. The cakes are pretty good. There is free water available for you to have if you want it. Place order at the counter and give them your table number. I would go back.

Beautiful coffee and the most sumptuous lemon crumb slice. Also, service was incredibly friendly and I would return again in a heartbeat.

Had breakfast here twice, both times really great. Staff were all great, coffee was very good and we all enjoyed our food. Big shout out to the bacon and egg muffin which was really awesome. Highly recommended.

There are but a handful of places in Yorkshire where you can get a decent cappuccino and this is one of them. A proper Italian style cappuccino, not the usual swimming pool of milk that Brits are addicted to. And the amazing flapjack was, well, amazing! (The Bakewell was pretty good as well). Highly recommended.

One of the best coffees that I've ever had. I wish I could visit them more while I was in York - will definitely revisit if I'm in the city again. The food choices are really good as well. Excellent spot for brunch. Check them out.

Came here with big hope for a well brewed coffee and I'm not disappointed. The barista did good job brewing fantastic coffee. I received good explanation of what's available and the drinks were served promptly.
So pleased with coffee that we've ordered another one. (update - with having more of the same food or drink the satisfaction drops down however the second coffee tasted even better than the first one - so glad we stayed longer)
Will come back for a cup every time when I visit York again

Great breakfast spot. Kids loved the American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. Really friendly staff who advised us to split the pancakes between the kids and also put an amazing Yorkshire rose on my coffee. Reasonably priced and most importantly coffee was excellent.

I stopped into Spring Espresso with my mom on our way out of York for a quick coffee and pastry for takeaway a few days ago. My cappuccino was great, but the croissant was so amazing I havenāt stopped thinking about it! It was the butteriest, flakiest, most delightful treat. Eating this croissant felt so luxurious, even though I had to eat it in the car and made a mess. The bottom part was crunchy, crispy, and melted in my mouth. I feel like I can still taste it. I really believe this was the best butter croissant Iāve had. My mom ordered the almond croissant and said it was the best sheās had too! It was such an unexpected surprise and I will never forget it. Thank you!!!

I got yummylicious (yummy & delicious) pancakes and it came with Nutella and bananas. You get lots and the staff are very friendly The grownups enjoyed there meals and coffee and there's a lot of options of soft drinks. I suggest coming here if you want a lovely meal

Lovely cafe. Opens at 8, which is very convenient. By 9am the cafe was full with no empty tables left, so come early or after the breakfast hours :) a very popular place, it seems
The coffee is good, they also serve breakfast and some baked goods.
The prices are reasonable and the location is very central. Highly recommended

Spring is our go to coffee shop in York. The food is lovely we had brunch - sausage sandwich and bacon sandwich. The coffee is so well made - nice beans, well extracted - overall excellent. They have expanded the seating area into the adjoining premises....so getting a table may be easier. A go to place in York.

This is a fairly recently extended independent coffee shop in the heart of York City Centre. There is a second, smaller branch on Lendal.
They serve incredible brunch options, delicious cakes and the best coffee in York. It is perpetually incredibly busy, so generally you would be lucky to get a seat but there is now more chance of getting a table with the new extension - still a gamble though. The business is probably a testament to the quality of the coffee and food.
As it is quite busy donāt expect highly personal and super friendly service. Theyāre pleasant and polite but you wonāt get the warm friendly feel that you normally do from a small coffee shop. That said it is still well worth going to, the coffee Is just that good!

Really rated their iced mocha. Good quality coffee and they offer decaf for those that may be interested. Didn't get any of the baked goods, but they looked nice. Staff were very friendly.

Pancakes were tasty and a solid portion size. Coffee was flavourful and rich. However, although we ordered via the QR code as suggested, it took a long time to be served even though there was only one other couple in there.
We went up to ask after 15 minutes and they hadn't seen the order. Might have just been a tech issue but we didn't receive any information.
Judging by other reviews, possibly a one-off?

Great place for breakfast recommend the posh bacon sandwich, staff very friendly !

Went yesterday for an afternoon coffee. Couldn't stay just for the coffee and had some blueberry pancakes too. The staff is very friendly, the place is cosy and the coffee is definitely worthy.. Almost forgot, the pancakes are to die for.

In my city back in Italy, Naples, coffee is more than a tradition... I was looking for the best coffee in York and I've finally found it. Also, I am vegan and they have arranged it a delicious snack just for me, really appreciated. I will definitely recommend to all my friends visiting York.

Tried this coffee shop for the first time yesterday and it was excellent, lovely smooth coffee, cakes were to die for, and all the staff were lovely, we will definitely be returning!

My friend had the "best bacon sandwich [she's] ever had" and I've got to say the same about my bacon pancake stack - the staff are lovely as well! Brilliant coffee, lovely place, can't wait for the Lendal branch to open!

Loved the marmite toast. lovely little, cosy, hidden away place. Delightful! Lovely food, pleasant ambience. I'd recommend this cafe. Much better than the noisy, stressed, more well known coffee places.

I had a latte it was perfect the shop has a chilled atmosphere I would recommend it too any one who loves good coffee.

We loved the service from the young man behind the counter. Without asking he gave us an extra fork to share a slice of apple, pecan and bourbon cake and a jug of hot water to top up the teapot. Very thoughtful and the cake proved to be delicious.
thank you.

Cosy coffee shop selling by far the best coffee I've tasted in York! Great selection of homemade cakes and some nice sounding platters, sandwiches etc! Definitely on my destinations list

Oh my. A coffee Triumph! Grand to see you Steve, and the espresso was top notch. Just exceptional coffee, and in a world where we are 'blessed' by a coffee shop every 500 yards, it's grand to find such beany joy. Just go and try it, or die unsatisfied. Them's your choices.
Alessio Candamano
The best coffee shop in york!! And Steve the owner is great...... I love this place!!

Best coffee in york by far and food to die for.

Easily the best coffee in York in my opinion. The traybakes aren't half bad either. This place is never empty but the service is always fairly quick and friendly. It's a bit small inside but there are a few couches and a nice cosy atmosphere.

Cold-drip Square Mile Red Brick is their brew and bean of choice, and it certainly hit the spot after a few days spent in the barren wastelands of coffee (oh, Caffe Neroā¦). Their cakes and cookies look pretty damn tasty as well, and have been duly entered in the āthings to try in Yorkā for our next trip Northwards!
