I used to live in London and Allpress were the first high end coffee makes in Shoreditch before the middle class muppets moved in. They also have an amazing space in Dalston where they roast and service their machines. Their coffee is second to none (which is saying a lot in the ever more saturated coffee market). Having Laura appear in the Shambles Food Market is amazing. Nattering away to her she's been in coffee for years and has worked with AllPress in their native Australia and knows her beans. It's such a positive sign for York as a city to start having this level of quality and passion appear and a great sign that Shambles Market means business. Love it.

You must try this amazing little place!! Best coffee in York by far and the best biscuits and banana bread I’ve ever tasted. You won’t be disappointed!

A lovely cafe with a lovely setting and very tasty almond croissants! Unfortunately when I asked, I was told they only had sourdough bread which I’m intolerant to. Though speaking to the owner later, she said they had gluten free bread and were going to try others. We will definitely go again as the staff were very friendly and I’d like to try some of the other pastries!

Stunning coffee and great location, right on the shambles markets, and only metres from the shambles, take time out from your Harry Potter photo expedition to head over here and charge up on a awesome cup of coffee, make sure you try some of their other wares, I had an ANZAC cookie, which was just as good as any I’ve had back home!

WOW! That’s all I can say, me and my wife shared the Special toastie which was Chicken, peppered pastrami, 3 cheese blend, rocket and garlic and chilli oil! It has to be the best toastie we’ve EVER HAD! When we next come to York we will certainly be back!

Such warm, welcoming customers service was given followed by the most amazing bakes! We asked for them warm, and they didn't disappoint! They also serve non dairy milk, which was fantastic. We would definitely recommend it, and we will try to make it a must go too spot every time we visit York. Thank you, guys

Dark horse not only by name. This may look like 'just' a horsebox coffee bar, however, they also serve some fantastic food to go alongside their perfectly served coffees. Situated in a busy market where perfection is expected, they definitely hit the mark. I am happy to recommend the Dark horse to those visiting York and looking for perfectly crafted coffee and a delicious gourmet toastie.

Quite simply, if you’re looking for a take out coffee in York - go here as it’s the best! Guaranteed to give you the caffeine hit to keep you going all day! For a small capactino and a tine £4.70

Wonderful place, part of Shambles Good Court/market area. Excellent people and excellent latte. Didn't have any food, but the toasties looked amazing. Note: popular ones sell out fast!

Coffee tastes great and great presentation , portion a bit on the smaller size for the cost but I understand as it’s in the city centre the need to complete cost wise. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu

We visited dark horse espresso bar today and what a hidden gem this really is! We had the best toastie we have ever had, so glad we shared as the toasties are massive and they are certainly not shy on the fillings. Absolutely amazing service and food. Would 100% recommend!
