Excellent value for money with the Groupon deal. Lovely restaurant, great friendly staff and gorgeous food with some surprising twists on original ideas.

The food here is superb and the waiting staff extremely friendly and helpful. I ordered the traditional cod and chips and my partner ordered the bowl of mussels. They were both extremely tasty- only downside is that the cod was on the small side. However, really can't fault the place, dining here was really enjoyable. And the curry sauce is amazing.

I highly recommend this restaurant. Generous portions of Freshly cooked food to order, friendly staff, reasonable prices.
You can just walk in however, It can get busy, so I recommend booking a table.

Busy little place but worth the wait.
Haddock cooked to perfection, best I have had in a while. Chips to cooked with just the right crunch and fluffy centre.
I will be making a return visit.

Staff are lovely, very welcoming and accomodating, spacious seating, spotlessly clean. Food was delicious! I can cod and chips with mushy peas, it's quite a good sized portion, would definitely go again and I'll certainly be recommending this lovely restaurant.

Excellent customer service, the staff were friendly and made sure we were okay. The soup was slightly over-salty but the breaded mushrooms were amazing. The lasagna I had was very good with full of flavours and my boyfriend's 5oz haddock and chips was great too. The dessert of the fudge cake and ice cream was top notch. I would visit this place again. The setting of the place and music was great and seemed homely .

Excellent comfortable atmosphere with lovely decor gorgeous tasty food opted for 5 plate tapas deal between 2 of us. Absolutely amazing freshly cooked and beautifully presented. Staff were very helpful and attentive would highly recommend for anyone wanting high quality food and service when they visit York a true hidden gem. Well done keep those high standards up your doing York proud.

My first contact by phone to book was told they were fully booked on the day we wanted. Then after checking found a slot.
When we arrived there were tables available during our time there.
The service was good and everything clean.
My partner chose a meat and ale pie which was very enjoyable. I chose the 'proper' fish pie and found it all potato with fish etc in. Tasty but I told them there was no sauce under the potato which they took 'on board '.
Both starters were enjoyable.

Went as a family of 5. It was empty despite it being York Christmas late night shopping (now that was a poor experience). We were promptly seated and menus brought by a pleasent girl, who's name i didn't get. We ordered starters of belly pork and mackrel fish cakes and fish and chips for 5 with peas, curry and bread and butter .it was prefect. Great food, great service, an absolute joy, a good way to end the day. Thank you Hook and Line...will be back
