Stopped by for a couple of pints while in town. The girls gave me some stick for asking for my beers like a southener which was a good bit of banter 😂 Didn't have any food but the fish and chips did look great. Good beers and friendly staff. 👍

Lovely place, staff couldn’t be more friendly. Only had a portion of cheesy chips but could tell they were good quality and a good portion size. Will be returning

Brilliant pub with history. Great range of beers, lagers and ciders - something for any taste. Serves food but not tried on this occasion. Fab bar staff - smiley, engaging, welcoming and efficient. Decent music played plus live music of certain nights. Part of York's historical heritage. Worth a visit.

I came here after seeing a Ghost Story by Mad Alice, it intrigued me. I came to York on a Wednesday and was there for the pub quiz! I couldn't help but love the vibe and atmosphere of this place. It honestly felt like being back in the 80s/90s with the volume of customers, decor, upholstery, snacks, clientele...if I lived closer I'd be in there loads! The prices were reasonable and they have a vast range of drinks on offer....more than any pub I've been in lately...even offering my favourite drink, Old Rosie, along with numerous other offerings from their range! Unfortunately I didn't get to try the food due to the quiz but they did bring around complimentary portions of chips (which were well seasoned and delicious) during a quiz break and they had lots of nuts/crackers/crisps available for snacks. Fantastic place which I plan to visit again before I leave and again when I return to York!! Thank you for an awesome evening!!

Went for Sunday lunch after visiting Jorvik centre. Can fully recommend the braised steak in giant Yorkshire pudding. Brimming with thick cuts of meat and creamy mash, carrots and peas in beefy gravy. Staff were really friendly and nice quiet atmosphere. A very pleasant experience all round

A really lovely cozy pub to get one of the best fish and chips. The siders were also very good. The crispy levels were just right! Definitely recommend if you're looking for a place to eat! If I go back to York, absolutely coming back to taste other goodies from here!

Excellent pub with phenomenal food. I and my partner wandered in there one evening and were astounded by the quality of the food and the portion sizes (she ordered nachos, I ordered a chilli burger). There are many stunning places to eat in York, but for classic pub grub given a creative but unpretentious spin, there's probably nowhere better than here. The staff and atmosphere were lovely too.

This lovely, historic, Grade II listed pub is a gem. Full of character with a great range of seating options. Visiting York and stopped by midweek, mid-afternoon. Staff were really friendly and the choice of drinks was good; I really enjoyed my couple of pints of Hobgoblin IPA. Really enjoyed the music too. Would love to return one evening for the advertised live music sessions.
