We had the Steak and Ale pie, and the Chicken Truffle pie. Both were enjoyed.
Atmosphere was nice, a slightly more upscale feeling pub.
The food did take quite a long time to arrive, although it was busy, it didn't seem so busy that we should have had to wait for 35 minutes for its arrival. If the pies were being individually made to order, then I can happily accept that, but I do not think that's the case.
A truly lovely experience! This age-old building has a vintage interior but lots of windows for light to come in so it doesn’t feel gloomy and dark. The staff were extremely friendly. The fried chicken breast was a bit too salty for me but the brownie was out of this world!!! Absolutely delicious 😋😋😋
Booked the restaurant for a family meal to celebrate my daughter running the York Marathon, pub has a great position in the centre of York, once we got to the Old White Swan we were warmly greeted and shown to our table, very comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very attentive checking everything was ok and if we needed anything throughout the meal. Beers were good, I enjoyed a Old Perculier that was very nice. We had Sunday roast with four having the beef and four the chicken both nicely cooked with decent portion sizes. We had planned on bringing a dog but they're not allowed in the restaurant but are allowed in the bar and outside seating areas but these are walk in only with no booking so didn't want to risk not getting a table so the dog had to stay at home. Really had a nice time and would recommend The Old White Swan if you're passing.
Pleasant find, recently refurbished to a high standard, the pub has some interesting history to it. Lovely little courtyard area ideal for summer day's & nights. Good menu of "pub grub" classics, staff were friendly, attentive, fast service. Looking forward to our next visit

Food great, lovely friendly staff , immaculate men toilets, worth a mention, wife said the ladies toilets were very good.
The atmosphere was pleasant and the whole building, courtyard and beer garden are worth looking at.
First place we visited in York for food and drinks. Was really nice. Tasty food, nice atmosphere, back yard was good place too and more quite as we wanted to relax after long journey.
Look it's a chain, we found at least 3 pubs in York serving exactly the same menu, but their pie is good 🤷 Had the steak and ale, award winning, pie and it was very decent, in particular the pastry was OMG good and the Torontela Rioja was great value for money. Wife asked for a slight change to her vegan order which didn't materialize so service not great but all in all a fun spot with a hidden garden in the back.
Excellent food, we went twice on our trip to York. Really nice atmosphere too.
Brilliant fine in York. Loved the outdoor seating area and the food was brilliant. Service was super quick and friendly too.
Sweet potato & goats cheese pie was great.
Very old pub amazingly well maintained. All wooden structures still in solid state.
