Popped in for a sit-down lunch whilst visiting York. The pub was quiet just before 12. The classic selection of beers from Greene King in excellent form but the food style the show for us. Great quality all round but a special mention to the Katsu Burger - absolutely cooked to perfection, wonderful balance of flavours. Great service from Louise who took great care. Set us up nicely for the second half of our day and a really memorable stop.

We love love this pub, whenever we visit York, we visit The Golden Lion, great range of drinks and food and a very friendly atmosphere, try here for a relaxing drinks, food or watch live sports on multiple tv's, you won't be disappointed...

Visited during a rainstorm, We were intending to visit Betty's Tea room but just wasn't prepared to queue in the rain, This pub serves amazing sharer plates, The sticky chicken, Prawn and Chorizo, Sausage roll we so tasty, You must try !
Staff were chatty and helpful and are a credit to the place.
It's just a shame we were only visiting York for the day from Surrey or we would definitely be back.
We will definitely return one day soon.

We had only drinks there, so can't make any comment on the food, but the service, drinks and atmosphere were nice in this pub! We went upstairs, there's a nice place to sit if it's not raining. The order has to be done at the bar directly and you take your drinks yourself. Only food would be brought by waiters.

Came in here a few times on a recent visit to york. Good atmosphere and service from stuff. Food is not too good and overpriced. We had fish and pie. The fish was far too dry and the pie too much pastry and very overcooked edges. Chips great but a very small portion. Next time I go there will be avoiding the food and just having drinks.

It's a traditional pub. The food is very good, there are various beers. You place the order from the beginning and pay for it. They bring it when the food is ready. The atmosphere is nice, the toilets are clean. It is a place preferred by the local people. There is very little noise, but it is not negative.

Delicious stop for lunch with ice cold beer! Everything was hot and fresh, with great flavors and the staff was working hard and doing a great job. Best Sticky Toffee Pudding we’ve had yet on our journey, too. When back in York we will definitely visit again!

The first thing we asked before booking was if they accepted children for dinner. They told us there was no problem. Objectively it is not a pub for children, small place, music too loud, difficult to communicate. On the other hand, very friendly staff and really good food.

The wife and I spent most of a great afternoon in here while visiting from Tucson, Az. It was summer they said. We were freezing while everyone else was in shorts. Lol. But we had an amazing lunch and great drinks. Just a really nice pub to hang out in and the staff was awesome. Thanks
