A lovely gastro pub in an absolutely stunning location. Food was simply amazing and the service was unfussy and very professional. The burger was something else to behold and I would recommend it if you're hungry as it's bigger than your average burger. All the food was tasty and beautifully presented. It was also very busy so I would book in advance to avoid disappointment. There is a free on site car park.

Ate here Jun23, lovely very tasty food. We were planning a drink outside when we arrived- mentioned it to the waitress, but fell on deaf ears- so quickly ushered us our table. Got a beer and soft drink, after a long walk we were so looking forward to, but the beer was from the end of the barrel and didn’t taste right so had to be changed.
Took quite a while to order, even thought we got an early table, and not many in at that time. Asked about some of the dishes content and cooking, the waitress had no idea- saying she was from a sister restaurant Roots, I fell she should have know, but she went and found out. But the so so tasty food was worth the wait. We shared a red mullet starter- wow, fantastic. Mains- smoked haddock and pork special- repeat - so fantastic. Inside, it felt comfortable and rustic, but very much a restaurant not a pub. And bring given a macaroon with the bill is a nice touch.
Overall we would certainly recommend the food but around this tweaking would make it a perfect visit.

Stopped off for a drink or two and found out how popular it was by the relatively few spaces in the car park. We sat by the sofa and ordered some bar snacks with our drinks. The chips came with 3 different dips and all tasted amazing! The chipolatas came with Japanese knotweed jam and mustard. Sounded unusual, but very tasty! Will be back to try out the actual menu soon!! Lovely atmosphere!

Went to The Abbey Inn today for lunch, excellent little spot for a drink and some really nice food.
Byland Abbey is directly opposite, so you can take a walk around there to burn some calories after consuming one of the best burgers I’ve had in a while.
Tommy Banks was actually doing the Lunch service today, so it’s good to hear he still chips in, even though he must be a very busy man!
We’ve eaten at The Black Swan up the road where I would say that is a once a year eating experience, but here you could come weekly.
Relaxed atmosphere, great service from all the staff, really friendly and knowledgeable.
Highly recommended!

Another wonderful addition to the Tommy Banks empire!
Just down the road from The Black Swan the tone here is less reverential but with the same robust flavours and excellent service.
Sunday lunch is delicious and a bargain for the quality. The strap line for this review could have been ‘Food so good I forgot to photograph it’
All this and the beautiful Byland Abbey to walk around too.

Amazing food, service, menu. All super local, seasonal. Similar to the Pig Hotels offering for those who have been (BUT BETTER!) great cocktail and wine list, amazing homemade shrubs and liquors and wines in cans to drink in or take home

Went with some friends for dinner. I think it's got the balance right. The interior is lovely and it's got a nice ambience. The food is excellent. I went for the Steak Tartare (pic attached) and the Byland burger; both my dishes were super. Other people had the Steak, the Hogget and the Halibut(. It's great pub food done extremely well. My portions were good, one of my companions was slightly underdone on hers but the Steak portion was amazing. The extra vegetables were really good.
I've knocked it down one star for atmosphere simply because we were at a corner table towarsd the back under a tinny (sic) little speaker. It was really irritating. I don't think it would bother you at any other table and they should consider moving it to the wall above the door to the loos. The staff were attentive and friendly. It felt like it had been open for a lot longer than the week it had been.
I'd certainly recommend it.

I ate here tonight with my sisters and niece, it was our first visit. It was a very exceptional experience. The food was very tasty and unusual, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was relaxed. Our overall experience was delicious and delightful. I would highly recommend this venue.

What an absolute 10/10 dining experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We were served by Grace and she was a wonderful host for the duration of our meal. The food is delicious. Two of our group had the Byland burger and agreed it was the best burger we'd ever eaten. Desserts were just as amazing! Worth every penny!
