Working down in York for the week.
Happened to stumble into a cracker of a pub. Arrived on Sunday evening at the hotel. Took the 2 min walk along the road to try here for some food and a couple of pints.
Very friendly welcome. It was really busy but the staff kindly got me a table for dinner at a slightly later time. Not a problem.
Locals were nice and friendly too.
The place just has a nice atmosphere about it.
The food was excellent. I can't fault anything. Food is that good, I've eaten every night of the week bar 1.
The mixed grill is definitely one to try.
Like I say, a good honest pub.
Beautiful. Food delicious. We have enjoyed 6 sharing plates for £26.

Top marks for a top team. Visiting from Sheffield and really pleased that we visited twice. Lovely staff, so helpful and inviting. Good atmosphere. Great choice of drinks. Had two fabulous meals, fresh, well presented and delicious. No problems with hygiene....really clean place. Management and staff obviously care about their business...and it shows. Will be sure to visit again when visiting York again. Thank you. x
We stopped here for 1 night in Campervan , lovely friendly pub , near to Race course in York.
The Cross Keys was very friendly and accommodating.
We rang and booked ahead and had a nice evening meal and drinks there , we are vegetarian but there were some nice choices. Staff were friendly and worked hard. It is a dog friendly pub and there is a nice outside sunny terrace with tables.
York City Centre took about 35 mins to walk into from the pub, it is on a bus route but we got a taxi back . Thankyou
Went with a large group of friends and they managed most of the dishes arriving together. My dish was veg curry. Very tasty and plenty of it. Puddings were ok but standard. Ainsty beer stout was lovely and the pink gins.
Popped in for a bit of food with my girlfriend, we both ordered the mixed grill and it is both huge and amazing! Being the greedy pig that I am I doubled up on the rump steak and struggled to finish it all. It was all beautifully cooked and is possibly the nicest mixed grill I've had. Definitely recommend 🏆
Nice but nothing special with food. I had the steak sandwich with chips. Friend had a steak and another a salmon and cheese sandwich. The surroundings were clean and pleasant. Nicely decorated. Young lady on the bar was smiley and nice which is always good. Cant knock the service. Thank you. She was helpful with my friends dietary requirements too. Keep hold of her I say! Only a 4 star as no wow factor on the food.
Great food, very tasty, great atmosphere. Service was ok but staff seemed under pressure. Not sure if they were short staffed this night, or if this is the norm. We enjoyed our experience here 😊

Stopped by on Monday evening for a spot of food after a busy day sightseeing
I’ve seen this pub in the past and always thought it looked like a nice pub. I am so glad we decided to call in!
Parking at the rear was plentiful & easily accessible
Welcomed warmly by the bar staff - it was great to see that dogs are welcome in the place as well
We are a family of three and found plenty of choices for the food. Staff happily accommodated a couple of small “tweaks” to the meals like jacket instead of chips etc.
They can pour Guinness correctly!😁 Been a fair while since I’ve seen bar staff let Guinness stand before topping it up the way it ought to be be.
That was the first tell we’d found a gem
The food was ample and delicious! It’s been a long time since I enjoyed pub food so much!
Next time we’re in York we’ll be calling back in!
Only small fault I can find is that there was no check back on the meals. In our case everything was perfect so not an issue for us.

We went here for dinner yesterday with three adults and one child. Short staffed but good service regardless and amazing food. We were very impressed and the price was fair. Alot of entertainment throughout the week and includes a child and senior menu
