Hai Zhong Lao Bbq & Hotpot

I can not rate this highly enough! The hot pot was wonderful, the menu choice good, the food quality excellent, cleanliness fantastic and service absolutely wonderful. We had no idea how the hot pot worked and one member of our party had a low spice tolerance but the staff were really wonderful, explaining clearly and answering all our questions, and we had quite a few. All this would have been enough to warrant this review but then you add robot servers and food on conveyer belts and it just made the experience even better! Honestly, if you are looking for a unique eating experience in York then I can not recommend this place highly enough.

Outstanding! One of the culinary highlights of our trip! This place deserves more reviews and plenty more business! Don’t be put off by the dated exterior, this restaurant is one of York’s hidden gems. The food was incredible and fresh with the two soups we had (chinese Kimchi & mushroom soup) tasting amazing and packed with flavour. The staff were incredibly friendly and informative and the robot waiter who delivered our food was a funny and unique touch! We were in the restaurant for just under two hours cooking our own food and didn’t feel rushed at all and the bill at the end was incredibly good value. Highly recommended to anyone visiting York!

My boyfriend and I passed this restaurant when we arrived for the first night of our holiday in York and its concept intrigued us. We were not disappointed! The decor in the restaurant is lovely, especially the projector walls with the aquarium scene, and our waitress was really helpful and talked us through everything we needed to know about how the ordering worked. We had never tried Chinese Hotpot before, and we had so much fun getting all our ingredients and cooking it all ourselves at our table! Everything we ordered went so well with our delicious soup bases, we could barely move after all the food! We were also childishly excited when we ordered our extra toppings and they were delivered to us by a robot, such a fun night! Would love to go again!

First time trying hot pot. Staff were lovely and explained the best way to eat and make the complimentary sauces. Great value for money. We paid £37 and left completely full, we ordered extra half way through but really didn’t need to in the end so the bill could have been less if we weren’t as greedy! The waiter also brought over some free icecream to keep our toddler occupied. We will come back!

If ya want a true orthentic style Chinese Hot pot, then Hai zhong lao is the place to visit without question.!!! 🤩😋.. First time eating at Hai Zhong Lao, and on first impression, the restaurant has a very modern Asian design inside with a great layout with individual booths / seating, which gives that bit more privacy to your dining experience. Staff were helpful and attentive, and more than happy to offer any assistance towards navigating your way around the menu. Offering a wide array of traditional & orthenic foods from Asia style vegetable, fresh sea food or for the meat lovers an array different cuts & skewers. All freshly prepared ready for you to cook either in a hotpot broth of your choice or on the open air yakitori grill. Either way, it makes for an amazing interactive dining experience 🍽.. We tried the Spicey Beef fat an Red oil broth an just Wow!!!! That's cernatliny going shift any cold I might had!🥵🥵. Deffently would recommend for those fancying being that bit more adventurous an like there heat 🌶🔥.!! The Szechuan pepper certainly leaves ya with a numb throat.. lol, fortunately, we also had the Beef Bone Broth, which was equily as nice, but deffently helped balance the meal!!. 🥵🍜.. Deffently be returning when I'm next in York!!.. 💯 % recommend to our mates!!

Me and my partner are both autistic, the waiter pick what we had to eat for us which is a great help as I was overwhelmed by the menu, they didn't bother us that much and they where nice and friendly! The background has lots of interesting moving images which would of helped if we had become overwhelmed. Only reason why I'm not giving a 5/5 is the price but as a one a year date it's not that bad Also robot!
