The ambience of melk was so nice. Hot chocolate was amazing and the waffles were absolutely fab. The quantity looked less but it was so filling so it’s worth the price.
Such a lovely cafe. Really calm atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was really inventive and tasty with plenty of options for vegetarian and vegan. So many amazing cakes too. The service was super fast too even with a very large group there while we were.
What a find. The sweet and salty sandwich was delicious cheese melted on a doorstep sandwich of toasted bloomer bread. Topped with crisp, smoked bacon and thin slices of dessert apple, so tasty, I will never eat bacon sandwich without apple again. The food was all beautifully presented, by friendly, attentive staff and looked so good. I asked for tea and got a pot full, such a treat. We happened across this place but will, in future, definitely seek it out.
Happened upon this cafe while on a day out to York. It’s quite cosy inside so can imagine at busier times you might struggle to get in. The food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. The staff were also lovely and welcoming.
Highly recommended for breakfast and selection of coffees and cookies. Very helpful staff and amazing 😻 cozy vibe corner and few big tables to enjoy with friends and family. Really polite staff loved it🥰 follow their instagram for more updates.
Good place to wait for people if you don't fancy the dungeons. Staff are great, very friendly and helpful plus the hot chocolate is one of the best I've ever had, made with proper chocolate and was so rich. Its also nice to see a cafe that uses teapots! Would absolutely visit again.
Friendly staff, great coffee and tasty cake. Perfect location to steel your nerves before, and after, the York Dungeon.

Cafés are ten a penny in York but there's only a select few that actually show love and passion for what they do and MELK is absolutely one of them. Fresh food prepped and served daily as well as a range of cakes and sweet treats that are unbeatable. Staff are down to earth and friendly, overall staggeringly good and well worth a visit.
Dropped in for coffee and a light breakfast. Thoroughly recommend the mushrooms on toast which were possibly the best I have ever had. Several sorts of mushrooms, cooked perfectly, and served on toast that soaked in the juices and tasted divine.
