Seeing the little inn as you drive along the small county road to its entrance you know that it will be a warm taste of an English country home and the decorations and roaring fire to keep the guests warm inside will only heighten that illusion. For the starters we opted for two dishes we thought fitting to the season, the ‘Yorkshire game terrine with pickled pear, semi dried grapes, mulled wine jelly and hazelnut flatbread’ along with ‘Creamed and truffled Shetland mussels with chestnuts, smoked bacon, chanterelles and crispy kale’ which was on the specials board.
‘James Whites’ pork sausages, bubble and squeak, Cropton Two Chefs ale and onion gravy – the sausages and gravy were great; proper pub grub… but sadly I did find the mash under seasoned for my personal preference.
Wow, what can I say about this place?? Atmosphere is wonderful, food is beyond amazing, staff are attentive without being intrusive, no pretention at all - just wow!! Already booked to return in a few weeks and my mouth is watering already! Thank you to all the staff that made out visit extra special on my birthday; after 2 years of covid ridden birthdays it's been a welcome and we'll enjoyed treat!!
We ate here for Father's day and sat outside on the rear garden terrace. The grounds are beautiful and peaceful. The staff here are brilliant and the food was lovely. We had four separate starters and mains and each course looked and tasted lovely with fresh ingredients they use from their own garden. It's a Michelin star restaurant but it still has that country pub feel which I love, as there were cyclists and people with dogs also eating and drinking in the pub area and at the front of the pub. Would recommend.
Went for Sunday lunch as we had a voucher bought by family. Had to book a fair few weeks in advance but the meal was outstanding and definitely worth the wait. It is quite expensive but everything was amazing throughout the meal. Definitely one for a special occasion
Just decided to go to the pipe and glass for a bar meal. Was going to have the fish pie, instead had on the recommendation of our friendly waiter, fish and chips. It was not on the menu but he heard me saying I'd fancied fish and chips and voalla. Cod loin in a light batter with chunky chips and garden peas done to perfection.
There are not enough words to describe the wonderful meal and service we received while using the private dining room upstairs.
Louise was unbelievable , describing everything, checking on our needs, topping up our drinks but then also leaving us to enjoy the afteenoon and chat.
Nothing was too much trouble !.
The courses we had were just amazing, beautifully presented and so very, very tasty.

Lovely place. Just gorgeous. Room was close to perfect. Grounds are lovely. Staff are brilliant. Beer is out of this world. However, the food really wasn't much to write home about. It's ok. And surely the world's worst wine list. Bottles repeated etc. The Primitivo was delicious but other wines disappointed. Go here for the place not the food/wine!
My husband treated me to a night here for my 60th and it was a complete joy from start to finish.
We have eaten here before but never stayed. May is a beautiful month and nature at its best. We stayed in Thyme which was perfect in every way. Lots of lovely touches.
The meal was as one might expect absolutely fabulous and my husband was delighted to see he wasn't bring ripped off on wine prices. The ambience was lovely and staff attentive but discreet.

When one goes out for dinner, especially to celebrate an anniversary, you have a lot of expectation, especially when said restaurant is a Michelin star establishment. The attention to detail, and the training of the staff to make this experience simply perfect, was abundant and without using hyperbole, absolutely flawless. This restaurant is magnificent, from arrival to exit, from appetiser to the last mouthful of sticky toffee pudding. To reveal more would be to rob you of this simply wonderful dining experience. Five stars? I would give all the stars in the galaxy to Pipe and Glass. To all the staff, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making our 5th wedding anniversary meal simply lovely. You deserve a lot of credit.
Food, drinks and service were all amazing and very reasonably priced for a Michelin-starred restaurant. Our table shared several starters and mains tapas style and found all of the dishes delicious and were absolutely stuffed by the end of the meal. Highly recommended! 💯
