My sister took me to The Curlew this evening for my birthday, and we had the feast menu.
The atmosphere was laid back and the decor beautiful and so clean, the service was unmatched, from anywhere we have been before.
The price of the food is at the medium to higher end, but well worth the price. We dine out for local fresh food, and The Curlew did not disappoint. It was out of this world good. The Gin Fizz cocktail we had recommended was utterly delicious. Overall, we had an amazing evening and the whole experience was 10/10.
As frequent visitors to this lovely part of rural Sussex we used to know the “old” curlew. New owners have given this a hugely improved new lease of life - now a pub with great food and laid back atmosphere. Shortish menus shows a clear ambition of quality and the dishes do not disappoint. Our table of six had cod (enormous and soooo fresh) and chips, duck, house burger and barbecued beer and chilli mussels. All were really good and disappeared! Somehow we found room for 3 desserts - nothing to fault at all. Interesting wine list reasonably priced. Service is enthusiastic and friendly. We will be back!
My partner actually started to cry because of how good the food was during our meal.
The staff were incredibly attentive, knowledgable and professional. They really knew their stuff, and this wasn't just a stepping stone type job for them - they genuinely loved what they were doing. It was really refreshing to see this, and it really made my partner's birthday and holiday.
I would recommend going to this restaurant, and even booking a holiday just for it.
My husband brought me here for our anniversary. When he phoned to book they asked if it was a special occasion and so when we arrived they presented us both with a special cocktail to congratulate us which was a lovely surprise. The staff were very attentive and the food was lovely! The menu changes regularly depending on what is available and in season and the menu is fairly small, but everything we had was delicious! I actually ordered an extra bread that we took home with us! The idea of the menu is that dishes are sharing dishes, so it meant that we got to taste a few different things, having a few bites each. This is way more filling than you think and neither of us could even manage desert!
It was a lovely experience! I would definitely return and recommend others to try!
The food was outstanding and we can't wait to go back there soon. The staff are so nice and there is a lovely atmosphere in the place. If I could give it more the 5 stars I would.
This is a hidden gem! Gorgeous fine dining set up in a relaxed atmosphere, rural location so best to take a cab if, like us, you want to sample more than one of the extensive wines on the list! They do have parking too.
The biodynamic Gruner we had was amazing!
The service was perfect, I didn’t catch the name of the gentlemen who looked after us (on Thursday 8 July in the evening) but he made our evening pretty special, talking us through wines (and offering tastings) and generally being attentive throughout.
The dining experience was relaxed - just how we like it! We ordered a few small plates, then a few more, followed by the most delicious cheese board and a little extra sweet walnut treat was presented to mark our anniversary - very sweet!
Overall good value for excellent modern British and European food and service, we will be back!

Fantastic lunch for two plus toddler. Lots of small plates to share and too many delicious items to recount, but personal favourites were the roe mousse, chicken & waffles and the rather theatrical meadowsweet smores! Wonderful way to finish a meal. Staff, service & ambience absolutely lovely too. Not to mention a fantastic selection of local wine, beer & spirits. Well worth a special trip!
We'd heard about this place and had passed it numerous times on the way to Bodiam. We thought we'd find pub grub but it was beyond expectation in terms of a gastro pub experience. I think the menu and photos speak for themselves. Very scrumptious.

The staff were amazing. The food fantastic, just what you'd expect from a great restaurant.
We went to the Curlew for dinner and had a fabulous time. They took care of us from the minute we arrived. The little touches, a birthday card for the birthday girl, our name stamped on a tag on the flowers and even hand sealed menus!
The feast menu threw up complication with a fish allergy and they were nothing but accommodating.
We tried things we would never have ordered, and enjoyed them and the timings between sittings were perfect and gave us time to enjoy!
It was an amazing experience and one we will return to if in the area again!
