A traditional fish and chips restaurant in Bournemouth. The staff are superb and cheerful attending to customers with a high attention to detail. Food is freshly cooked to order, and the batter is light. The waitress said my cod was being cooked again because the tail was broken off, demonstrating quality and care to detail to which I said don't worry so not only did my original cod arrive but also to my surprise another as well! The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere, setting itself apart from other fish and chip shops. A special thank you to Vicky, and Melissa who looked after us. You can't reserve tables, so I would advise arriving early in the evening. Otherwise, expect up to 1 hours wait. On street parking only. Certainly one of the best fish and chip restaurants in the UK.

A superb fish and chips restaurant! The staff here are really welcoming and attentive, we got seated quickly and we had our orders taken shortly after. The restaurant itself is well decorated. There is a good selection of fish, with specials and catch of the days. There is an option for unlimited chips, which I obviously went for to make the most of this amazing curry sauce that I got on the side. Other condiments come with the meal, but the curry sauce is worth every penny. The haddock I had was seasoned well and the batter was crisp and crunchy. We also had the soft serve ice cream and it was a lovely way to finish the meal, being a refreshing pallette cleanser. I would come back here for the curry sauce alone.

We have just had a lovely fish lunch deal at Chez Fred's. Their maitre d took our names and we waited for only 10 mins for a table. The restaurant is obviously incredibly popular. We were served by Marcie who was polite and helpful with great care to our needs. I had a cod lunch with unlimited chips (which is a great idea as it meant that they didn't cram loads of chips into my plate, which always puts me off). I also had normal peas not mushy. I had a small glass of wine and then a pot of tea after for £17.95. Excellent value. I highly recommend this restaurant and this was definitely the best fish and chips I've ever had. Thank you.

Lunch
The premier fish & chip shop.
We know it's very popular so we decided to get there early.
On arrival about 12.30 there was a queue out the door.
Not early enough as they open at 11.30.
The wait wasn't too long, maybe 10 minutes or so.
We ordered
THE LUNCHTIME SPECIAL £12.95
Prime cod
Unlimited, freshly fried chips, home baked
roll and butter,
Fred's mushy peas, plus a pot of tea or cup
of filter coffee or a choice of soft drinks.
Including free refills of tea or filter coffee.
Save up to £6.00. Available 11.30 am 2.00pm.
Service was friendly and quick.
They need to be with so many wanting their fill of superb Fish & Chips.
Lunch is extremely good value, taking into account the Unlimited chips & drinks.
Which you don't really need as the portions are very generous.
Well worth a visit even though there might be a queue.
Or get there earlier than we did.

Chez Fred is a great place to go for a traditional fish and chips lunch. The £12.95 lunch offer is excellent value for money, and the food was delicious. The cod is perfectly cooked, the chips are crispy and golden brown, and the mushy peas are smooth and creamy. The bread roll is soft and fluffy, and the unlimited refills of chips are a great bonus. Alice, our server, was amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and always made sure we had everything we needed.
Overall, I had a great experience at Chez Fred. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the value for money is unbeatable. I would definitely recommend Chez Fred to anyone looking for a great fish and chips lunch.

One of the best fish and chips I’ve had so far. Staff were very kind and friendly and they ask you if you need more chips every 5mins which is a laugh 😆
Busy busy and you have to wait for a table, but I’m not surprised in a nice restaurant like this which is worth it.
I highly recommend it 👍

Always a great meal here. My third visit and the food is great. Never needed to take advantage of the bottomless chips!! There can be queues both too dine in or take out. So make sure you time your visit or accept the wait out is well worth it.

Best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The today’s catch fish felt like butter when biting it and the mushy peas were excellent.
Waiters were very friendly, the service is excellent.

Really friendly, helpful staff. Great food we had a lovely time! Thank you!
Unfortunately no gravy for chips, but that hasn't caught on in the south for some reason.

Fantastic fish and chip shop. The fish is fresh and the batter nice and crispy. Plus the ships are just right, not soggy like some places.
The service is excellent; fast, efficient but also friendly.
I had the Hake and chips which was worth the slightly extra cost as the fish was fantastic.

I lived round the corner for a few months from "Chez Fred" and still visit when I'm in the area. There's always a line to get in but it's worth the wait. It's rare that you're able to get "catch of the day" as it is always sold out. If it's not you should definitely get it (you might have more luck during Lunch time rather than Dinner time). I've been lucky a few times and it's one of the best fish and chips I've had. You get unlimited chips with your order so make sure you have room to fit it all in 🤣. I would also recommend the "pea fritter" (deep-fried mushy peas 😋) It has an "old school" decor done in a classy and stylistic way. As a Brit who loves Fish n chips it is one of my all time favourite fish and chip places. If you're visiting the area you need to go.

Delicious gluten free fish and chips on a Tuesday only. The rest of the family had the regular fish and chips and we all raved about how good it was and value for money. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Worth the visit by bus from our holiday spot in Bournemouth. I'd be there every week if I lived in England .

The best fish n chips... mushy peas i've had. Amazing service from the service staff. Great price!! Can't ask for anything more

Usually visit in summer and always have to queue, which is worth it! Visited last night and no queue, sat straight down. Food, as always, delicious and straight out the fryer. Lots on the plate and free chip refill if you can manage them!!! Very good value for money!!

Been a few times over the past 20 years - I am opening a fish and chip shop in southsea called the fishermans kitchen uk and thought I would pay chez Fred a visit before we open as we are using the same potatoes and fish 🐟 😀👍🎣 great service lovely meal highly recommended if you are in my home town looking for a fish and chip shop #thebestintown

I have in the past bought fish and chips here and enjoyed it. I went yesterday to Westbourne with the fantasy that of the past would be replicated. The chips, which I promoted to my partner as to die for were, I felt were sub standard and would of been hard pushed to beat even the most ordinary fish and chip shop in boscombe. I went with the intention of having an unforgettable experience and the experience is now tainted as will not go that little extra and will buy from the local from now on.

Definitely the best fish and chip shop we have ever been to ...we have been coming here for years from up north and each year we visit chez fred...Fantastic staff and fantastic food and is always busy ( must be doing something right )...love it .
Christine Harvey
I went for the first time on Monday with my sister who must eat gluten free. The fish and chips were of excellent quality, cooked to perfection, very tasty mushy peas and unlimited coffee. My sister had extra helpings of the unlimited gluten free chips. First class service provided by Sean. We will most definitely go there again.

Visited while on holiday, once in the takeaway and once in the restaurant. Your search for 5 star fish and chips ends here. Friendly staff, great fish and chips ( they will skin the fish on request). During busy times you may have to wait a good 15 minutes but the wait is well worth it. ( Please don't put pressure on the staff to hurry up with your order, these guys are doing a great job). The only downside of this restaurant??? It is 250 miles from my home town. Come on Chez Fred, open up a restaurant in West Yorkshire please

Delicious food cooked to perfection. Not a spot of grease in sight. Friendly polite staff and lovely atmosphere. Excellent value for money will definitely return again!!

Stephanie Whiting
Arrived to find a long queue to sit down and eat. As there were just two of us, I was asked if I'd sit on the high stools rather than wait quite a while so that's what we did! Enjoyed my meal - as good as usual - and staff friendly as always.
Gary Scouse
Have visited several times over the years & it's consistency is spot on , yet to have a below par meal.Friendly service & superb value for
