Unexpected stumbled into this great little joint- no clue that reservation was an important part of this restaurant, I guess we were just lucky to find ONE table!
Cost little place - orders sangria jugs (top notch!).. House specials - choirizo dish/ grilled sardines / roasted lamb (so tender) and a pork gravy I can't recall , which had sliced sausages but the gravy was just amazing ! The food was good.. The drink was great.. The ambience , very engaging.. All in all..a recommended experience :)

It was worth to be my First tine Spanish cuisine experience :)
We've been to Casa Don Carlos many times in the last 12 years, the staff are really friendly and welcoming and we've never had a bad meal. Tried loads of tapas places around the UK but not found anything to match this. The only problem these days is actually getting in as its so popular!
This was a really great find, amongst the gorgeous Lanes of Brighton. We thought it could be a tourist trap but it's the real thing, complete with fantastic Cortado coffee
Casa Don Carlos is a really friendly resturant and welcoming. The food was brilliant and different from a lot of spanish places I've been to before. We had a selection of paella, prawns, garlic mushrooms, fritata and pepper with chorizo in tomato sause with ouevo. These dishes were brilliant and would have again. The menu has a wide choice of dishes so you can have something new everytime. The prices of the dishes also were very good for the quality and size of the dhes you get. The service is excellent and very welcoming. I would recomend this resturant to everyone
Very popoular restaurant serving great food and wines
I have eaten here many times over the years and got the pleasure of taken a friend who had never been last week. This place never lets you down! The food is great , the people are amazing , so attentive. Highly recommended.
Walked past this restaurant on Friday afternoon on my way to Party on the Beach ⛱️ Thought to myself "will go there tomorrow" Glad I did.
Arrived late afternoon, about 16.15pm. Table for 1. Told that i had to be finished by 18.00pm by the owner. No problem.
Was seated near bar. Nice little place. Loved the atmosphere. Food looked and smells delicious 😋
Genuine Spanish staff and food.
Staff were helpful and friendly
I had meatballs / stuffed peppers / fried prawns and bread with dip. Cortado and sparkling water. Happily sat listening and watching. Would highly recommend.
You have to book ahead if you want dinner as its so popular.
My favourite restaurant in Brighton!
Always a pleasure to visit the Don and the food is excellent. As good if not better than anywhere I’ve visited in Spain.
Highly recommend the flambé sausages and the paella, the octopus is lovely too.
The price has gone up a bit since Covid but that’s not unusual, paying to keep the lights on and the gas in the kitchen must have quadrupled so I reckon it’s perfectly acceptable.
Casa Don Carlos welcomed us well and "Don Carlos" was fun and friendly;) We got 5 different tapas and it was a bit too much for us but we did it!
Service and athmosphere at Don Carlos was nice. Lady who served us was really friendly and we had great time;) Thank you, we will come back;) at the mean time we will practice our spanish at home;)!
Good selection of tapas … tapas are well made but ingredients would be better if fresher.
What a fantastic meal at Casa Don Carlos! The atmosphere was wonderful, and I've since learned that it has not changed since it's opening. A beautiful, intimate, traditional spot found in the Brighton lanes, I cannot recommend it enough. My friends and I shared the grilled squid, chicken and peppers, chicken and ham croquettes, garlic prawns, patatas bravas, and the rum chorizo special which was lit on fire table side. We also had a bowl of olives and bread, served with garlic mayonnaise. The menu is vast, with a wide variety of fish, meat, and vegetables dishes as well as daily specials. I highly recommend getting a jug of sangria for your table to share. A true Brighton land mark, this is one restaurant you have to try!
The food was nice but the portions were really small which is obvious.
Love the ambience.
We ordered Pollo al ajillo, Champiñones con chorizo, Gambas al ajillo and Mejillones
Lovely small establishment that had a genuine Spanish feel.
Staff were very friendly and happy to explain items on the menu. They were busy, and this might have explained moments of slower service. Variety on the menu was awesome. My husbands options were certainly enough to fill him up, but my options left me still hungry, so I found myself filling up on bread. That said everything was delicious, but I possibly needed a 4th dish to satisfy my hunger.
Like a traditional Spanish restaurant. Fantastic wine, really good service and lovely food. I especially like the fact that the waitress suggested that we order less than we intended to. It shows that they aren't greedy, and would prefer we enjoy our food than over-order, and feel uncomfortable trying to eat it all
The food, the staff and the atmosphere here were fantastic. We ordered around 5 dishes, a bottle of the house wine and bread & olives for two. It was a perfect meal, the dishes came out promptly one after the other and when the table was filling up too much they brought another table across. Will definitely be going back.
