The Helmand

The food, service and ambiance is so refined and excellent. My son and I sat outside and each shared our own superb appetizers-- eggplant and kado ( pumpkin ). He had the lovely sea bass, and I savored my lamb dwopiaza. Everything was terrific, and Kate was a wonderful waitress. I would highly recommend others to dine here.

The 1st time ordering here. I ordered take out. This place was highly recommended by a coworker, and I've never had Afghanistan cuisine!! All I can say is that it was amazing!!! I ordered the Lamb Lawand. It was so tender that it just fell apart. The rice was so flavorful! The spinach was outstanding!! And so much bread!! The whole meal was absolutely delicious!! When I picked it up, the staff was friendly and courteous! The ambiance was comfortable and welcoming!! Excellent all around!!! I can't wait to order again and try something else on the menu!!!

We have been coming to Helmand for at least 15 years and it has always been great. Last night however was a different story. I always liked this restaurant for its consistency and great food. To start with the positives, service was great and our waitress, a young lady who was super friendly. Now to the not so great, we ordered 4 Qabele (rice and lamb) dishes as we have for the last several years. It was extremely dry (lamb) and the tasted really mediocre. The taste was lacking the sweetness from the raisins and bland from the rice. It tasted like it had been rushed and not cooked fully. At $27 a plate, I was expecting far better. We left disappointed and none of us finished our food.

The worst ever restaurant in Cambridge, the food quality and quantity are really poor , the portions are just not enough for one person. The food appearance and presentation are very bad , I have already ordered the food more than 75 minutes before arriving at the restaurant but it was not ready.. the staff are extremely rude and they are liars . Unfortunately it was such a bad experience, never again. Really I don’t recommend this place to anyone.

We had ordered from this restaurant twice online before and enjoyed the food so much, we decided to check it out in person! The food is absolutely amazing and accommodating to many diets - pescatarian, vegetarian, pork-free, etc. I would highly recommend the vegetarian special for anyone wanting to avoid meat but still indulge in flavorful, authentic Afghan food! The “Our Cake” and the “bucklawa” is also phenomenal, and if you’re visiting while she’s working there, ask for Kate as she was our waitress and did an amazing job! Will be recommending this restaurant to friends and family in the area :) P.S., thank you Kate!
