The purple poppadom in cardiff wales is an nice restaurant. Its had hot and spicy Indian cuisine and tried many meals there the ambience of this place is wonderful and fantastic
The Purple Poppadom in Cardiff, is marketed as a Nouvelle Indian cuisine restaurant and you can certainly say you won't get your bog standard uninspiring Indian food here - this is Indian food with a touch of class. Since opening two years ago it has been rapidly winning awards aplenty, including Welsh Curry House of the Year 2013 and has gained a place in
I've been trying to sample a true representation of Cardiff celeb Chef Anand George's food for yonks. The food he served at Poppupadom, Cardiff's first pop-up restaurant was a disappointment; most likely due to the unfamiliar kitchen. Equally the delicious food served at Mint & Mustard , the restaurant where he was formerly head chef, gave an indication of his abilities but vitally was not cooked by the man himself. This is why I was so eager to sample the food at Purple Poppadom. Would Chef Georgeâs food, cooked in his own kitchen and with his own team live up to the billing? Purple Poppadom is very good. The flavour, concept and presentation of the dishes is bang on and the dining room with its little bar area is pretty funky. Iâll get the minor quibbles out the way first so I can get onto the good stuff. As far as the food is concerned the only bum note came from a rather odd powdery textured nutmeg ice-cream accompanying one of the desserts. My only other issue
For the past couple of months, I’ve been aware of lots of mentions of Purple Poppadom, the new vehicle for award-winning Cardiff chef Anand George, formerly of the acclaimed Mint and Mustard. I’d read a few interesting reviews, and as a lover of more contemporary Indian food (as opposed to the more rough and ready curry house standards), decided it was a must visit venue!
I have to say this is an extremely well executed dish. The chicken was moist, flavourful and exquisitely spiced. I was a little apprehensive of the cold mint sorbet, but it really worked and cut through some of the richness of the other components whilst still bringing a mouth refreshing zest to the plate.

Easy to book online. Decent and accommodating service. Definitely more expensive than most Indian restaurants. Indian food is usually served family style but this one is one dish per person - which was completely unexpected. In my opinion, that falls expensive and also monotonous. Their thali packages are a good idea. Food was wonderful, I don’t suggest ordering cocktails - too light and very little flavor. All the little things add up - bottled water, baskets of fried papads, large pours of wine, so just be mindful. They could handle a large group!
Me and my boyfriend booked here for our anniversary. The food was amazing, would 100% recommend the scallops as the sauce was the best thing I've tasted. The staff were very polite and even gave us complementary shots at the end of our meal. Its a beautiful restaurant and we enjoy every part of it!
A must visit for lovers of Indian cuisine! The flavour of the sheek kebab starter was deeply intense and my wife said she would gleefully eat the the scallops as her last meal. The lamb in the saag was very tender and delivered a rich irony flavour. The smell accompanying saffron rice was intoxicating and the peshwari naan was crisp and sweet. The chef selection of deserts was to die for; particularly the crackly then cloudlike rose crème brulé. Finally, surrounding all this culinary magic, the service was snappy and engaging.
The Chicken trio starter and the mini vegetable filled pastry (mini samosa) is just amazing. Excellent hospitality and some new selection of dishes (like Chocomosa dessert).
Definitely, a go to place for indian food whenever you are in Cardiff :)
The best place in Cardiff to enjoy authentic food. So much nicer than your standard Indian restaurant.
We went here to celebrate a new job for my husband. As it was a special occasion we had the Chefs tasting menu with matching wines. First ever visit and we will definately be back! As I dont eat meat the chef was great at adapting the menu for me, each course was beautifully presented and tasted great. Staff were lovely and the restaurant had a great atmosphere. 100% recommend.
What a delicious meal! Veggie platter was larger than it appeared, raan akbari was amazingly cooked and so flavorful. Every piece of the streets of mumbai starter was amazing - this was the standout in an already impressive meal!
One of Cardiff’s best indian restaurants, the food was really tasty and well presented. We were a large party and everyone enjoyed thier meals. Extensive menu with plenty of veggie options. The new contemporary interior brings a nice ambience to the space.
We brought meat eaters to this very tasty place for veggies and vegans, they loved it too. Classy and welcoming atmosphere. Toilets very clean and appropriate for the standard of food. Banging food. Appropriate takeaway materials that were recyclable. Better biodegradable materials needed.
Nice Indian Restaurant with great service set in an ambient atmosphere. The menu is small but unique and not your run of the mill Indian Cuisine. The menu changes seasonaly.
