I spent the first night out camping, which is free. I arrived after the pub was closed and decided to setup camp in the back. I took a day break here on my coast to coast. As I awoke the next morning it was down pouring. The Owner came to check on me multiple times and was extremely kind and welcoming showing me around the place. I spent my last night in the hut and it was absolutely wonderful and well worth it! Making yourself a hot cup of tea, charging your devices and a warm clean bed is all ones needs. The huts are cozy and well kept and the locals at the pub were friendly. Plus there's a shop to restock less than 5 minutes up the road
Camped in the garden here for free as a Coast To Coast hiker (perhaps 50 mins walk beyond Richmond centre, right on the trail). The landlady and landlord were very friendly as were other punters in the pub. There's a shower room and toilet around the back which was very nice. They weren't serving food the evening I was there but they set us up with the local takeaway and let us use their dining area, cutlery etc. and we ate like kings.
The new landlord John goes the extra mile to keep his customers happy he keep the pub nice and clean and he always welcomes you with a big smile .
A perfect pint
We stopped here on the Coast to Coast walk and slept in one of the shepherd's huts. It was cosy, clean, and warm! Bridget made us a delicious dinner and breakfast and made us feel so welcome. We had a great time! Great shower for campers to use.
After reading a review on this place I decided to push on from Richmond and camp here. As soon as I arrived I was greeted by a member of staff who quickly showed my round the site and facilities. Once I was pitched and showered I popped into the pub for a drink where I was greeted by all the locals who are so friendly, camping was free with the use of the bar which was an added bonus.
Stayed in the shepherds huts here for 2 nights whist touring the country on motorcycles. They are well priced, clean & comfortable. The Staff look after you well and apart from being Northern the locals are alright too. Great little pub with a great atmosphere, highly recommended!
One of the best places I stayed during my coast to coast trip while camping. The pub is located on the trail so you can't miss it. There is a big garden in the back for pitching a tent and the toilet/shower facilities are better then they are on some 'professional' campsites. Staff here are very friendly and helpful and got me a great meal with more than enough calories to get me through the next day of hiking.
My wife and I visited from Bedfordshire to attend a friend's 80th birthday party, which the Hildyard Arms also hosted. Good beer, good food and we were made very welcome. We stayed in a cabin which was clean, tidy and comfortable. The price was very reasonable. Whenever I overnight, I always look forward to a good cooked breakfast and I was not disappointed. We are planning to visit again in the not too distant future.
Lovely pub with fab customer service. I used to work there and know first hand that the staff will go above and beyond for the customers. Reece and Mike are lovely, Ange is a sweet heart and Brigette is so welcoming and her food is fab. The regulars all know how to have a good time and would welcome anyone. Dogs welcome inside and the pub often do little events. You can pitch your tent in the garden for free if you buy a pint (has shower and toilet facilities) or can pay a little fee for a cute gypsy style room. All round a lovely pub xx
One of the best places I stayed while doing the coast to coast walk, with camping in the back beer garden. The pub is right on the trail so you can't miss it.The staff are amazingly helpful. I arrived late and missed the food, but they gave me a number
for a local takeaway great facilities and very friendly pub
