One of the best (if not the best) cafes I have ever been to. For starters it has a warm, welcoming and communal feel, it's animal friendly, the staff know the menu inside out, amazing coffee and they serve alcohol! (So tempted to try the tequila hot chocolate if only I wasn't driving). The owner is adorable and has customer service PERFECTED. Then the menu - cheese toasties, every which way you could imagine and with amazing combination of flavours and options. Genius. This place really is a hidden gem and I would be there every day if I lived closer!
Sunday wouldn't be a Sunday without the ultimate and the nuclear meltdown cheese toasted sandwich! Homemade chilli jam is a must have! Lovely place for breakfast lunch or tea!

Food was really good and there was no scrimping on the cheese front! Had a special, Mac, and house toasty. All were lovely!
Staff were so lovely and friendly! Sat in the garden area which was a lovely sun trap with wall art and flowers. Really nice vibes.

Wow! Absolutely amazing place. My macc cheese was blinking gorgeous, washed down with an elderflower gin cooler...perfection. My hubby had a gorgeous toastie, but had envy when he saw the fish finger one! Can't wait to come back for more amazing food, snuggles with Kitty and just friendly chat. Great service. Thank you
Meltdown has a lovely family atmosphere that makes enjoying the grilled cheese sandwiches very relaxing.
This family atmosphere is reflective in the friendly and attentive service, with a willingness to quickly accept alterations or substitutions to the food when ordering.
The grilled cheeses are cooked well and there is a large variety. But they are very heavy and indulgent so don't come looking for a light snack. Only thing I would suggest to improve would be to serve a light salad alongside the sandwiches to cut through the cheese and fat.

Omg. What an amazing little gem of a place!!! Such a unique concept! We had a grilled cheese each which were absolutely stunning! The owner and her staff were fab, along with THE DOG!!! 😍😍 Definitely a highlight of our trip. Thank you so so much ❤️🧀

This was a nice fresh idea. When my friend told me about meltdown, my first thoughts went to "this sounds like festival food". Without spoiling it for you, everything here is served on a cheese toasty. I went for bacon, sausage and black pudding on mine and I wasnt disappointed. The cheese was nice and creamy, the black pudding and bacon were nice and crispy and the sausage was....very sausagey!! Staff and service were spot on. Though we are out, the inside looked nice and clean. Outside seating was available.

Excellent service and the best, dirtiest cheese toasties you have ever had. You can even make your own creation which the owner - HRH Toastie Queen - and staff actively encourage.
There's plenty of options on the menu too as well as sides and plenty of choice when it comes to drinks.
Been here a few times now due to the friendly atmosphere and the amazing quality of food too. They also have regular events, kitchen takeovers and collaborations with other independents which are normally in the evenings.
A brilliant hidden gem that everyone talks about, bit of a trek out of town but you'll be glad you did as you'll work up an appetite to conquer some of these cheesy behemoths
Oh wow! If you love cheese, then you'll lurve this place. Such a variety of delicious dishes, and sit in the cosy little cafe or takeaway and eat at your leisure. Great friendly staff too. Will certainly be making a return visit.
Woke up Sunday morning feeling a bit worse for wear, after a night of heavy drinking and eating, needing some proper food. Saw photos of the toasties at Meltdown and I knew this is what I needed.
I ordered the Breakfast toastie, with bacon, sausage, fried egg, hash brown and black pudding, and when it arrived it looked behemoth!
I tucked right in and didn't stop, it was perfectly cooked. A nice crispy toastie, made a beautiful sounding crunch, and the flavours came bursting through, the sausage in particular was amazing.

The best hidden gem in Chester. Rode 20 miles there and I'll do it again. Unreal.
