These amazing people are serving the best beers in UK in the oldest pub in Chester. When we visiting Chester we are always going there for chocolate stout. The taste is just perfect. People are welcoming and friendly.

This place is very nice. Local people come around because they have cheap, good quality beers (no big mainstream beers there). I didn't feel like a stranger there it feels like a very welcoming place. There is no mobile phones policy in there which encourages to strike a conversation with anyone. It's a place to go to even if you're just a tourist. It's a historical place with a soul.

Sam Smith's pub with the usual 'everything made by Sam Smiths'. All the ale is good. Fruit beer is excellent. Historic surroundings too. In Chester bout as cheap a pint as you can have if you stick to cask/kegs. Recommended.

So cheap it's insane but because its their own branded alcohol. So don't go in if you want a usual high street brand. That said, the beer is good. Very basic pub but also comfortable and cozy. Shame they stopped allowing dogs in. If you like here, also try the boot Inn.

What a lovely traditional old English pub in Chester. Wow... this place offers character, atmosphere and lovely local craft beer. A very welcoming atmosphere in the middle of Chester. We popped in for 2 local beers and a few cokes for the kids. All came to approx. £7 only! Highly recommended for a visit don't miss out on this hidden Gem for an old pub experience. The landlady was very informative and helpful. Local beer was one of the nicest beers I've ever tasted! They have a "No Swearing Policy" which I found comical but good!

A characterful half-timbered alehouse offers value for money drinks, great atmosphere and plentiful seating.

I had lunch here while sightseeing in Chester. The pub is ideally located for both the city centre and the river, and has a history dating back 800 years. Beautiful period interior with wood panelling and oak beams, and an upstairs restaurant. The lunch menu has all the usual pub favourites, sandwiches and burgers. I found the staff polite and helpful but the service was rather slow. The chicken, ham and leek pie, served with chips and two veg, was tasty and filling, accompanied by a glass of good wine. Nice atmosphere, and not too expensive.

Very nice, good selection of Sam Smith beer.

A quintessence of local pub. Located in amazing Tudoresque building, always full of locals, with the cheapest beer in Chester. Yes, this place is a must-go-to in Chester even if it is slightly run down. Try Sam Smith’s Chocolate Porter. And be aware, this place has a non-swearing policy!
