This quirky restaurant was an absolute delight . A fabulous setting next to the Priory made us feel like we'd stepped back in time . Fantastic food , relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff. A great experience and will return very soon . Thank you everyone
We dined from the 2 courses and a bottle of wine for 2 menu (£45). The food was gorgeous (chicken breast and trout this time)........we'll certainly be returning again very soon. We live locally and are spoilt for choice when eating out in Christchurch.....Splinters is one of our favourites though.
Rob & Serena.
We were pleasantly surprised by Splinters! Decor-wise, it does feel a bit like a dentists waiting area or someone’s musty living room, but once the room filled up a bit and the delicious food and wine came, it was an enjoyable experience.
We had the lamb rump with minted mash and peas, and the pork tenderloins with dalphinoise. Everything was cooked perfectly, and was really delicious. A friendly server, who we presumed was the owner came round, and was very friendly and attentive. It’s just so great to see owners actually moving around the tables talking with the customers!
We received complimentary hor d’oeuvres which were very tasty, there was a great bread selection, and the wine list was quite good.
We can see why this has good reviews, but would seriously consider renovating the space! The carpet especially needs redoing (or removing rather!) as does the signage outside - we almost missed this restaurant, thinking it was a small business or office. I would suggest renovating totally, with some new tables and chairs, lighting and a sound system. Then the atmosphere and look will match the standard of the food, which was high!
Would recommend and return.
We were really pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was really tasty (we had 3 courses), the wine good and both well priced. The staff were lovely and this made the evening even better. I would agree with a previous reviewer about the signage and some of the setting (though the upstairs room is much nicer and I would suggest getting a table there). We are not local and had booked before we arrived for the weekend but very nearly cancelled when we walked past the place earlier in the day. However I am so glad we kept our booking and overlooked the front window and signage. (Also very clean)
I was wondering through Christchurch and came across this fantastic restaurant. We were looking for something that was not a mainstream restaurant and wanted somewhere quiet where we could relax. On entering the restaurant we were seated in an area that we could relax, order our drinks and food before being seated.
The menu on offer wasnt crowded and had around 7-8 really good dishes, something that everyone could pick from.
The food was brought in good time and was excellent. The fillet steak was cooked to order and the lamb my mate had was just as good.
The staff were excellent, well informed on the dishes and all in all it was clear that everyone working there really cared about the restaurant and dinning experience of the guests.
Am looking forward to the next time i can visit.
Really delicious food. Great seating and very clean. Manager took our temperature as we entered the restaurant☺
Super fish dish and starters. Really enjoyed the friendly atmosphere. Thanks
My partner and I visit here twice a year (each time on our birthdays) and I can honestly say it is the BEST food both of us have ever tasted!
The venue is small and quirky and the whole team are warm and welcoming. We were greeted with a smile and a lady took our coats and led us to a small table by the window. We were given the menus and offered drinks. We thought we had found our place for the evening, however the same lady re-appeared with a tray and took our drinks through to the restaurant! We were given a free soup and roll (yummy) and the cosy environment is really romantic! We do find however that we don't speak to each other very much when we visit here, this is due to the fact we are far too busy enjoying the amazing food they have to offer, nodding and making "mmm" sounds are as good as it gets!
Do not hesitate visiting here! It's the best! (Oh and we're going back next week)
A most charming restaurant in Christchurch town centre. All three courses were superb - the Cheese Souffle was a particular highlight closely followed by the incredible duck main. Staff were attentive - the waiter especially went the extra mile when he noticed us trying to Shazam the song that was playing and went to find out what it was for us! Really friendly, excellent service, superb food - cannot fault at all. Thank you!
We arrived at the restaurant to be greeted by Splinters friendly staff. The food was impeccable and we would certainly visit again. If you want a truly exceptional dining experience look no further. My suggestion is to have the Fillet steak.
Charming English restaurant in the centre of Christchurch. We were welcomed warmly and seated straight away in this quirky back-in-time restaurant. Our host was very obliging and hepful and ordered drinks whilst we chose from the menu. We were served homemade rolls before our starter arrived as well as a littel plate of nibbles which were very tasty.
The main course was well cooked and presented, portion size was just right. Our host was charming and friendly but nit intrusive. Desert was very good and above average but not outstanding.
Overall I would go back and I certainly recommend eating here if you want a change from the plastic gastro-pub sene.
Excellent food, tasty and cooked as requested. We had three courses and could not find fault with anything. Also accommodated gluten and dairy free needs with options not on the menu. Brilliant
Once again, a very pleasant, enjoyable and memorable dining experience from the time you enter to the time you leave. Excellent hosts, superb food and wine, great service. Nothing is too much trouble. I defy anybody who dines here not to return.
