Been here lots of times before, this particular visit was at a very quiet time of day when I imagine most people are at work so we pretty much had the place to ourselves.
We weren’t starving so had a selection of the starters (scallops with broad beans, pressed lamb belly with broccoli and anchovies, asparagus and greens in balsamic, fat chips and a truffle mac and cheese) they were all delicious.
Waiter was a lovely attentive French man and the mains and puddings on the menu looked enticing, if only we’d had bigger bellies!
Lots of parking, nice outside tables too, some in the sun and plenty under some shade. If you’re in the area, honestly one of the better pub lunches around.
Sunday Roasts are good here too.
We were driving around the outside of the city with our friends who live here. After stopping in Richmond (Go AFC Richmond 🤣 - i.e. Ted Lasso) the drove us out to a truly hidden gem! We came down a single lane 2 way road and turned into this gorgeous property. Barbie is the owner / manager and she personally waited on us with her team. There is something special about the owner sitting with you and sharing their time and love! She even shared a bottle of her personal collection of special wines that she had opened for herself earlier that day. The appetizers were all a taste of heaven, I had the fish & chips, others had a pork dish and fish dishes. Everyone was moaning at how good it all tasted. The staff were so sweet! The grounds are so beautiful. Take a half a day trip or even a few hours to visit this piece of heaven. Barbie even told us that the tavern scene in American Werewolf in London was filmed there. I can even see this place hosting a wedding shower, rehearsal dinner or other special events.
Absolutely delicious food and fantastic service. Popped in for a meal after collecting family from Gatwick. Ambience and atmosphere - spot on. Lovely little garden terrace and open airy feel inside as well. Sam and Sophie were great with everyone, especially Our allergies and weird requests while taking care of other guests. Not only that, they know their menu and know it well. Went out of their way, and because of that, we’ll go out of ours to return again. Highly recommend. Sorry for the lack of photos, we ate it all. Cheese board is a must have, especially that black truffle honey. The chicken pate is delish too!
Can the owners of this restaurant please support your staff more by having more staff working at a time? They need twice as many staff as are rostered on. Despite being heavily understaffed, the staff work super hard and still doing it with a smile on their face. Each visit we’ve waited a long time to be seated, served and fed, and there were so many finished meals still on tables because the staff are too busy to cope. This restaurant has all the ingredients to be 5/5 - delicious food, beautiful building and setting, well stocked bar, music, friendly and caring staff, good number of parking spaces, and great vibe overall - just hire more staff.
We went to the black swan for our friends’ wedding yesterday and can’t rate it any higher! The food was absolutely to die for! And the staff, specifically the owner Barbara and the lovely Asta were so attentive and friendly. We even went back again today for lunch because we enjoyed it so much. We love coming to classic car meets in summer and have never had a bad experience at this pub. The pub was presented absolutely beautifully. Thank you for everything you did to make our friends special day so lovely. We will be back very soon :)
My husband and I got married today and went to this pub for a meal with our family and friends.
We were warmly welcomed by Pascal & Barbi and had a brilliant time! The service was great and so was the food. I will definitely be back for their delicious fish stew!
This place is absolutely amazing! From the first communication of booking the table to on the day , they were so responsive. We were there for a meal after my son's civil wedding (14 of us) and they surprised us with complimentary bottles of champagne. Throughout the meal they were so attentive and friendly and the food was so delicious. I really cannot praise them more for such a wonderful experience and will definitely be back for more.
I can never fault this place. We were lucky enough to get a table without booking (no mean feat !) But as always we were greeted like an old friend, Barbara is a legend and always makes me and my guests feel like royalty.
The food speaks for itself and the rest of the staff are genuinely friendly and very attentive. Sadly we didn’t have appetite for dessert today but trust me they are worth the calories ! Can’t wait to come back again soon.
the food is fantastic. the environment too! but we believe the pricing is overpriced with 12.5% of service charge, it’s a pub with food at the end, not a fine dining reataurant. We will probably be back as it’s super dog friendly. Not recommend the buffalo wings, taste is okay, not as proper as other restaurant and the portion is so small, the wings are mini sized! My burger is cooked nicely and all our mains are. Did’t try a dessert as the menu is not very attractive.
We held a work summer party at The Black Swan. We received excellent service, food and drink. The staff were polite and very helpful and all dietary requirements were provided for. The care and attention given to detail was superb. Food presentation was excellent, The staff ensured nothing was omitted and were a pleasure to work with in advance of the event and on the day. Everyone enjoyed the ambiance and food. The venue is beautiful. We were fortunate to be able to dine outside all afternoon which added to the great atmosphere. We would highly recommend The Black Swan to everyone.
