Railway is my favorite bar when visiting the UK! Super convenient location- just a quick 5 minute train ride from Gatwick Airport. After a long flight from the States, it’s the perfect spot to grab a drink/bite to eat. Love the local/chill vibe here, and the bar staff is is 10/10- especially Ryan!! He makes the best cocktails, always has great drink/food recommendations, and is SO fun to talk to. Definitely recommend!!!
Depending on your disposition, walking into The Railway may feel a bit like The League of Gentlemen ("You're not from around these parts, are you?" and "This is a local pub for local people") but don't let first impressions fool you: this is a great boozer! True, there are mainly locals/regulars there, but it's a welcoming enough place for outsiders, too.
Lots of screens for sports, a pool table, several games machines, 8-pint beer towers (should the mood take you!), outside seating, and very welcoming staff. So... it's a Stonegate pub, and the selection of drinks and menu is according to that chain's dictates. Having said that, my lasagne wasn't bad at all and part of the January special deals: who can complain about a main meal and a pint for a mere £6.74?! Taking about which, the prices in this place are almost rivalling Wetherspoons down the road but with incomparable atmosphere.
Walk up from the town centre and wait for the railway barriers to open... it's worth the wait: you won't be disappointed!
On my layover at Gatwick, decided to visit the mall at Crawley. Whilst looking for a rest and a quick meal, I came across this lovely pub. Very friendly staff that seem to be working together well. Quick service. Good food. Good prices. Seems like a great place to be at any time of the week.
Best pub I ever been to. Had a day to waste at gatwick airport went here for fish and chips and a beer. Best decision I made
The staff are amazing and food is great
Next time I come from Canada to England I’ll be stopping in again
Drinks are fair priced Ryan has always served me on the dot as soon as I walk in. The railway has always been my go to pub especially after djing there with my uncle.
Great atmosphere, great food, great prices and great staff! Especially Ryan he always goes out of his way to help! This is best place in town for watching sport, this place has 4 big screens and 8 smaller screens, you can even sit in a booth with its own screen! Table service is available at all times via the app so you don’t have to wait at the bar. Convenient location to town and the train station. They have just got a new pool table which will take card as well as cash and currently have free pool on a Monday evening!
From London. In the area and popped in as lots of tvs for watching footie. They already have scored. Adrian and Shannon treated me like royalty. Well as Harry and Megan live in the USA and I'm from NYC it was ever so nice. I had a couple of special requests that Shannon made happen big time and Adian stopped by to check and I thought 'Am Am I in my London local?' I highly recommend the Railway. ...and the atmosphere is great!. Thumbs up to all.
Watched some live sport. Really nice service and friendly staff. A good atmosphere 👌🏾
Will definitely be back
We went in while walking into town, the atmosphere was fantastic, the food was good (I recommend the spicy chicken) and it was like how pubs used to be.
Wow that Helen and the team really deliver great service with a great smile. Call head office and I suggest payroll ups their gain. The food is hot fresh and great value thanks Chef! Lovely local with a lovely mix of friendly punters and behind the bar peeps.
