A genuine Italian restaurant, staffed by Italians and frequented by Italian diners. I could end there but would be underselling the evocative food, friendly staff and homely atmosphere. On a warm summer's evening, if you close your eyes you can imagine that you're actually in Italy rather than...er, Croydon (who'd have guessed!). Salve is a breath of fresh air from the tasteless "Italian" chains and pretentious fine dining of central London. Seriously, watch out for the generous portions, make sure you try the olives and the risottos are to die for (probably quite literally if you eat them too often). The fresh fish specials are always good and sometimes excellent. I spend a lot of time here and, on balance, would list Salve as my all time favorite Italian restaurant.
Just had an amazing meal ... specials board choice of pan fried pork loin in a wild mushroom sauce with slow roasted potatoes and sauteed spinich.... to follow homemade tirimasu .... to die for and all wash down with a couple of glasses of italian beer
This is an Italian restaurant in East Croydon, a small, cosy and intimate place serving up scrumptious Italian food, I had the home made Italian sausage with short pasta which was absolutely delicious. I went there last night and it was rather busy for a weekday and unfortunately the waitress who was the only person who could speak English was overwhelmed with the crowd, she did do very well and worked very hard, I applaud her, the only downside was that I had to wait at least 45mins for my food to arrive but it was well worth it.
I have to say this is a nice little quaint Italian place, the food is great and it's very inexpensive. I did hope they had more vegetarian pizzas but what they did have tasted good. It is a little small inside so coming at peak time could result in waiting for a table. The lunch offer is very cheap (£5.50) and worth every penny. I do feel the service is a tad slow but that doesn't take away from the experience. I recommend this place.
SalVe Italian is one is the best & authentic Italian restaurant in Croydon. They have vegetation, gluten free options and good variety of Italian wines. We had delicious vegan tomato sauce Spaghetti and My friend had Risotta with mussels. Highly recommended place for authentic Italian food. Thanks for lovely food.
Fantastic pizza, great feel to the place and it feels like an authentic Italian restaurant. Great staff too. Loved it.
Great Italian food. The portions are quite filling (at least for the items that my friends and I had). The mozzarella pizza bread is absolutely tantalizing. I highly recommend it. But with the fairly large portion size, sharing this starter with a friend is probably be a good idea. You may even want to split your main dish if you aren't a big eater. The service was pretty good, mind you The restaurant was empty except for my friends and I. The staff were very polite and helpful. The food prices were quite reasonable for.the amount of food that is served. To sum it all up, if you are in or near Croydon and are looking for some good Italian food, try Salve Italian Restaurant. It will be worth your while.
We have been here a few times and have always had excellent, authentic food and service. They have an interesting and varied menu and their food is tasty and fresh. Most recently we booked for a party of 30 and the owner, Enrica, could not have been more helpful. She offered us a tailored menu, accommodating those with special dietary requirements and allergies and everyone was hugely impressed on the night with the service and the quality of the food. It was a wonderful evening and everything was simply excellent. We would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant and it will be our first choice from now on. Thank you Enrica and the team.
Best meal that we've had in a long time. So often Italian food tastes like it's come out of a microwave but this was authentically delicious. The service was outstanding with genuine Italian hospitality. The food was made freshly and it showed, simple authentic Italian with good quality ingredients that you can taste without any confusion.
I always wonder if reviews are left by the staff but I can honestly say that this not only lived up to expectations but exceeded them. Both us and our children were accommodated with genuine Italian warmth and the staff could not have done anything more to improve on this.
The place is clearly not appealing from the exterior nor the interior ; it would clearly benefit from a proper redesign / clearance. Staff is friendly and natural, you can see you are entering their family restaurant. Food is fairly good, it tastes fresh food ; it can be a bit greasy but nothing alarming. Prices are fairly low. Overall a nice address for a quick bit of Italian food!
We stayed at the neighbouring hotel and at first thought this was going to be a typical hotel "restaurant" - bland, reheated food.
How wrong we were! The food was delicious! Obviously freshly-cooked, imaginative flavours and very generous portions! This is authentic Italian cooking, done with heart and soul. Very friendly service as well. We will certainly be back when we are next in the area.
We arrived around 7.30pm for dinner on a weekday. It was quite busy with few large groups. The interior felt like 2 separate spaces although with plenty of tables. Overall the service was good and friendly. The dishes were fairly tasty and big portions. The only complaint was that the service was quite slow and we had to wait for a while for our main.
