After a family day trip to Dawlish today and just happening upon the strand cafe with 3 hungry children and 2 tired adults, we were so happy with several things
1. The welcome..we dread walking in with our kids to any food establishment bar McDonald's. We were greeted so warmly, the tables were arranged quickly as to accomdate us all in a busy lunch time without an ounce of it being any trouble.
2. My 2 year old as all kids do didn't want to sit in the high chair and wait so I was showing him things around the room when a lady approached and in my head I'm thinking oh gosh we are in the way as usual..but no she smiles and interacts with my youngest and then shows us the children's bit filled with books..well he was straight in the chair and occupied until the food arrived, which wasn't long at all. Always appreciate a quick serving when with the kids!
3. We all ate! The kids ate everything!and helped there selves to some of ours!
4. Kids were given the choice out of a run of sweets before leaving! (They even asked permission first out of ear shot of them!)
So if you're out in Dawlish I would highly recommend this place. Plus if the sun was out we probably would have sat outside as there's a lovely patio area. Thank you for making our lunch that little bit easier today!
Walked past The Strand Cafe today, and noticed dogs were welcome so went in with my family and obviously my dog.

Chilli cheesy scones were amazing!! My Mum said it was the best cup of tea she’s had for ages! Lemon drizzle cake was also amazing! Plus a member of staff came over and asked if my dog was allowed a treat- it’s things like that that makes me want to visit again! Lovely friendly staff, well done The strand cafe!!
Our family were looking for some breakfast before our trip to the beach. Open, welcoming and very friendly. We were welcomed into John's, by the man himself. The service was nothing but excellent. Food was very quick to arrive, and to say hit the spot would be an understatement. Only serving local produce, noted by the board on the wall.
The food was very delicious, and wasn't greasy at all. A perfect English breakfast experience .
Highly recommended.

I'm genuinely awkward and pedantic, about most things, but there's nothing I'd have said could be improved about the breakfast at John's. Thoroughly recommend and we'll be returning.
Great food, perfect sized portions, tomatoes in separate pot. Delicious hash browns and mushrooms. Will come back to Dawlish to eat here. Lovely atmosphere, very clean. Great staff, very friendly. Excellent all round thank you.
Still the only place to have lunch when visiting Dawlish! Well priced quality for, cooked fresh rather than pre-prepared and microwaved. Friendly staff, and both indoor and outdoor seating make this an all-round place to eat. Can be busy around lunchtime, so plan accordingly - although the wait is never that long
After walking up and down trying to find somewhere to eat, we settled at John's, and I am so glad we did.
We sat outside watching the world go by, and it was very relaxing.
The food was beautiful and you get so much of it!!
My father in law ordered the chicken club sandwich and could only manage half of it. Luckily, my husband (the human dustbin) managed to finish it off for him.
We would definitely go back and would highly recommend it to anyone
Myself a 5 friends visited John's yesterday morning for breakfast before we left our holiday in Dawlish.
By far the most amazing customer service from all the staff, very friendly, attentive and made sure we were comfortable.
The food 10/10 we all ordered breakfast and it came out freshly cooked, tasted amazing and filled us all up.
We are due a holiday to Dawlish again next year and we all said we'd definitely come back to John's for our leaving breakfast again.
Highly recommended for the service and food. Thank you to John and the team!
UPDATE!
We returned a year later and the same as above only we witnessed a dog give birth to a pup. Was quite spectacular!!
Lovely breakfast and we were looked after well by hard working friendly staff.
What a lovely place, popped in for a snack whilst im Dawlish. Atmosphere was great, the owner served us personally. The staff were very polite and helpful and the food was freshly cooked and awesome. If your in Dawlish and your peckish, or just want a drink, then this is the place to go.
Great, friendly, welcoming and warm cafe. Good range of snacks, main meals. Hot and cold drinks. Staff is very helpful towards every ability. They treat everyone as an Equal. A great atmosphere where we can all talk to each other. Located in a good area on the high street.Easy to find.
My friends and I called into John's Cafe today and I was so impressed I have to leave a review. Very friendly and helpful staff where nothing was too much trouble. Excellent food. Will definitely go back again.
