My partner was eying to visit this joint as soon as we landed in Edinburgh.
So obiviously the first place we visited was Oink.
It's a small joint with few tables to seat.
The burger was delicious. :)
The place was quaint but people eat fast so you can wait if you want. The line goes long so fast so if you don’t see a line, run for it! I was expecting to have the chicharon on it but I guess you have to request for it. I don’t know how it works though. I ordered the Oink with Brown bread and BBQ sauce. It was awesome! But would like to have the cracklings though 😉 Aaand you can have it takeaway, it is so easy to eat while walking around!
This is the pork lover's paradise. We headed here after a long walking tour of the city and we're absolutely famished. Their food is out of this world.!
Great spot roast pork rolls. Very limited seating though - be warned. Fairly reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Get there early before they run out of crackling!
The most amazing, delicious pulled pork sandwich with apple sauce and stuffing from @oink_edinburgh This was the ‘piglet’ version but was still big enough to feed me! We just happened to pass by it while walking to the Holyrood Palace and decided to get one for the road - best decision!!
Amazingly flavourful! We had the piglet with sage and onion and apple sauce. Completely blew me away. I don’t think I’ve ever had such a tasty and moist pulled pork sandwich. Can’t wait to go back again. It’s very rare to enter an establishment and be greeted with smiles by all the staff. I love this place!
I promised foreign food fantasies, and started with posts in London, but now we journey to Edinburgh! The beautiful city in Scotland, walking through Edinburgh just made me feel like I was in a huge castle with Gothic buildings everywhere and just an entire feeling of grandeur – but I won’t get carried away as this isn’t a travel blog! So one of our friends in Edinburgh recommended this place and so it was the first stop we made after our 2.5 hour train ride from York (on the way from London). You’ll be hard pressed to find this small place without a line during peak dining times but the line moves fast so don’t be deterred. The window has a huge roasted pig (not suitable for vegetarians..) with small boxes of the delicious, crispy crackling lining the windowsill and the entire tub inside filled with tender, stringy pieces of pulled pork freshly cooked that day. This little eatery definitely warrants a visit if you’re in Edinburgh!
Trust me it’s THE place for the meat lovers. We got the name of the restaurant from a local in Edinburgh and trust me we did not bother that it took us 30 mins (not being a local) to find the place. The display board outside the restaurant is also not clear because of which it took us time to find the place.
The only disappointing part was that there are very few seats to sit and enjoy the food. It takes a lot of time to find a place to sit.
But Food was 5/5
The came across this place on Saturday morning. There was a half eaten pig in the window, so obviously we went inside. It's a small venue and the staff were friendly. We both ordered an oink (medium size pork bun). I had haggis stuff (very tasty) and apple sauce. For some reason my wife got a piece of crackling and I didn't. I had a taste of hers. It was delicious. My sandwich was very good too. The combination was tastey and the meat was soft. If I'm in town again, I'd definitely stop by.
It's been 8 years since we went to Oink and I am STILL thinking of this place. I've recommended it to everyone traveling to Edinburgh. I check in on it on Google maps every now and again to make sure they're still open and serving their delicious pork sandwiches. We went multiple times to eat there during our stay. Absolutely highly recommend if you're in Edinburgh.
Great quick bite, meat is perfectly cooked, every component of the sandwich is prepared well and makes sense. Good options, the place is quite small so it gets crowded fast, but the queue moved along quickly. Affordable, filling, tasty, all that you need in midst of the sightseeing.
Yummie, if you like pork it's delicious! Had a "piglet" (the smallest bun) and it was enough to replenish my body in order to explore the streets of Edinburgh again.
An amazing hog roast bap - got mine with mustard mayo and also added crackling (recommended). The meat was sooo juicy and flavourful. Worth the wait and the queue moves pretty quickly!
The equivalent of Yorks - ‘Yorkshire Pudding Wrap’. ‘Oink’ Serves pulled pork in a bap. Great service. Great food and reasonably priced. I would recommend going for the medium as the small is maybe just a little too small, unless this is a sales tactic. Oink is located on Victoria street. A very popular street that draws a lot of attention. Oink can therefor get busy, hence I would recommend going at a time not so busy. Definitely worth it for a light lunch bite. Delicious too. 🐖
Close at 5, went there nearly 4pm, only take away is allowed.
The meat was nice paired with apple sauce that gives a little sour taste to the oily dish. But Mostly lean pork which is good.
We obviously had to try this famous chain… you get the most meat with the box and can pick sides. Overall good place to try but nothing too crazy to come back for.
Nice shop for pork sandwiches.
Different sauces to select.
If you are early enough you get a piece of the pork crust.
Oink was a great place to stop after a long morning of walking. Large portions of delicious food at a reasonable price. Next time I eat here I’ll ask for more BBQ and mustard!
Great value for meals
Large portions
Plenty of seating
Friendly staff
Plenty of drink options
The haggis was a great side option to put on the sand which and the pork was very juicy. Not much fat to worry about chopped in either. The portions are so huge that my wife and I split the large and didn’t finish it all.
The smell coming out of the restaurant instantly attracted my appetite. The pulled pork was excellent and the sage stuffing was just as wonderful. Definitely the perfect quick bite. Only knocking a star since we tried to dine inside on the counters but were told we couldn’t do so with no reasoning given. Either way, can’t deny the food was great!
