I was traveling solo and saw online that this pub was supposed to have good local music. I am SO glad I went! The place is small and it was packed with locals. I sat down at the bar, drank a few pints, and chatted and made some new Scottish friends for a few hours while listening to the traditional music. It was such a nice, genuine experience to just sit, drink, and have some friendly conversations with strangers on a Tuesday night. Based on what I heard inside the pub too, it seems like it is mostly frequented by locals. Beer was cheap and bartenders were lovely. Highly recommend!
I came to this place, because I wanted to do a whisky tasting and I heard they had good whisky. I asked the lady behind the bar if she could help me and I got a personalized whisky tasting. SO to her! Was an amazing experience and the live folklore music definitely added to that.
Me and my friend had a fantastic time at this pub, where the style represents the city of Edinburgh! This includes the frames, arch and the counter's layout, where we were served by lovely staff. They were a bit delayed due to a heavy crowd but understandable and I enjoyed the Edinburgh Gin, situated comfortably at a clean table!
A must when your in Edinburgh. Classic old school vibe complete with little fire and usually a dog lying next to it. Good whisky selection, yummy scotch eggs to nibble, and usually nightly trad session. A great stop off after exploring Greyfriars cemetery
I came here for one drink… and stayed the entire night! So much fun! So interesting! The staff was super helpful and funny, they had great drink recommendations, and were overall enjoyable to be around. Oh, and of course the music was amazinggggg. 10/10 would come again.
It was our first visit in Edinburgh so we were looking for a pub with traditional look. Sandy bell’s was a best choice. We got some beer and many kinds of scotch whisky. Live folk music created a great atmosphere. I would like to repeat it.
If you want to go somewhere authentic, with great beers and whisky, great recommendations from people who work here, as well as amazing vibes and music, search no more and come here !
A great Scottish pub. We had a very enjoyable time.
Good friendly place, service excellent. We needed some help with unfamiliar beers and got generous and knowledgeable assistance from the bar person: enjoyed our pints of Harviestoun.
Nice pub to take cover from the wind and rain! They have a small fireplace which makes you feel warmer than it should and all I can say is that I appreciated it after being out walking the whole morning.
Good selection of scotches for aficionados as with most pubs in Edinburgh.
They even have a piano for aspiring musicians which is reserved for such talents from 830pm
