I stumbled across this place one day and decided to give it a try.
It was fantastic for a lunchtime meal, okay there isn’t much seating, it’s minimalistic and there aren’t any bathrooms (you can takeaway if you like), but if you want to indulge in your cheese toasties habitat this is the place to go, wide selection of cheeses and the Mac & Cheese toastie was to die for!

this is an outstanding outta-this world toastie shop. tried two, forgot what one was but the other was beef with capsicums. they do toasties right - on frying pan, both sides with butter, normally this large amount of melted cheese would be too heavy for me but it was just f****cking delicious, ratios perfected, flavours outta this world. got a melon soda with it too which wasn't too sweet - but acidic enough to be the perfect match for the toasties. i'm glad this shop is in a different country to where i live else i will be broke and have heart disease
I've been waiting to visit & experience this place since it opened, finally I'm here, and it was certainly worth the wait.

Social media is great for finding places to eat, and after seeing an incredible looking grilled cheese on Instagram I quickly had to find out where it was from and get one! Finding out it was Meltmongers in Bruntsfield was great, as it's close to our flat.
Being a Saturday afternoon it was quite busy, but we managed to grab one of their few tables. I instantly fell in love with the design; the colour scheme and melted cheese decor is subtle, but on brand.
There is a variety of different ways to have your grilled cheese and we chose The Big Cheese and the Smoked Chilli Cheese with a side of Sweet Potato fries. The menu is on the wall as you walk in and you order at the counter, but once we had taken a seat we realised there were also menu's on the table. These menus showed that there is a choice of bread, but unfortunately we never got asked out preference.
Our food was extremely quick at being made and brought out to us and it looked just as good as the photo I had seen! The Big Cheese was my favourite, the mixture of different cheeses and the jam/chutney gave the melt extra flavour. The fries were some of the best I've had (and I eat a lot of sweet potato fries), they were deliciously crunchy on the outside whilst still being soft and fluffy on the inside (my mouth is watering just thinking about them)!
The only disappointment was that we weren't asked about our bread; we both would have opted for sourdough, but we got soft white. This is something that we'll remember for next time because there are so many melts we need to try!
It was a Friday. The end of a long week and I wanted something warm, satisfying, savoury and probably something calorie heavy for my lunch. Soup from Union of Genius? – nah too hearty. Louisiana Po’Boy Sandwich from Checkpoint? – nah just wasn’t in the mood. Then it dawned on me; lets head over to Meltmongers for a gooey, cheese overload!
I was expecting to brave hoards of people but alas it was an oasis of calm. As I approached there were a few people leaving with brown paper bags (I could smell the melted cheese sandwiches inside!) and all bar one table was taken (there are only 5-6 tables in here).
The menu is displayed on the wall but there are also menus on the tables. I read through the mountains of cheesy combinations that can be ordered and settled on the good ol fashioned straight up Meltmonger Classic which is mature cheddar with classic American cheese; with side of crispy skin on fries.
I have been itching to get to this place since it first opened but as Bruntsfield isn’t along my usual path anywhere, we had to make a planned visit. Meltmongers is not strictly a restaurant, but you could technically have a main and dessert which is why I am reviewing it. I have to say, it is lovely to see a small business opened on a Sunday, so we took full advantage and got stuck in. Whilst Meltmongers is a small venue, there is enough seating for around 20 at full capacity. It was getting close to being full whilst we were there and plenty of other customers were popping in for takeaways. The menu is relatively straight forward; there are cheese related toasties, burgers, sweet toasties and some sides. I decided to go with the Big Cheese and my friend went for the Melt Madame. We placed the order at the till and then grabbed a seat and waited for it to be brought over.
What a tasty treat, full of cheesy flavour! It is not too salty or greasy which puts them above other outlets. The price around £5 is reasonable and the range of flavours on offer are great. The takeaway packaging is sturdy and made from cardboard which you can recycle. They were kind and mindful of our sesame allergy, but having said that, most of their items did not include any nuts or sesame. Overall, it is a really nice place and I would recommend you visit for a quick delicious bite every now and then 🧀
Very tasty and fulfilling grilled cheese sandwich! Good place to have a bite after a walk in the Meadows. We got the Big Cheese sandwich, and both the taste and the portion size was perfect! When it comes to grilled cheese sandwich, I think meltmongers set the bar very high for us. Looking forward to visit again.
A great basic grilled cheese, perfect for a cool, damp day in Edinburgh. Not a lot of seats indoors, however, which is less great for a rainy day. But they sure do make really good comfort food.

Their mac and cheese sandwich is the absolute best. The staff are really nice and food is always nice and quick.
I always recommend friends to go and I am always thinking of when I'm going back!
A must visit for all cheese lovers!
They have a large menu to suit all tastes, with different breads and cheeses to choose from as well as much more extravagant sandwiches. Lots of sides too if a toastie itself just isnt enough (I reccomend the sweet potato fries). We had it for a late lunch and we didn't even need dinner that night it was that filling!
They had a Christmas toastie special which we tried along with their bacon & cheese (both pictured)
Plenty of seats if you want to sit in or they offer takeaway & delivery too.

So good! I got the hot dog one and it was genuinely one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The bread is perfect and it was filled all the way to the back, which is a rare thing! Definitely recommend a visit!
Phenomenal. So many choices and so filling. Lovely small seating area and a chilled out vibe. Busy but not so busy you couldn’t get a table on a Sunday morning.
The breakfast club is incredible. Took a while to make but well worth the wait. A flavour implosion with the cheese coming through at the end to top it. Thing I loved, the whole sandwich was full so even at the end you still had plenty of filling for the last bite. Coffee not to bad either. Keep up the good work, we will be back
Absolutely the best - grilled artisan bread- melted cheese -sandwiches we have eaten! Superb, delicious, texture perfect Philly and Hamburger Haven this round!

Very tasty toasted cheese and 10 out of 10 Burger. It is definitely on my go to comfort food list! Also very good portion sizes! And excellent packaging.
