Excellent restaurant in Edinburgh with superb, if expensive (hence 4 stars), food. Currently hidden away behind some building hoardings and scaffolding, once inside you are treated to superb service and food. Predominantly fish and sea-food but you can get a Steak.

Fantastic seafood although a bit overpriced for a sole. The scallops appetizer was good. Nice flavor. The calamari was crisp and light. The bramble was fantastic!

The food is great I can say that much. The atmosphere is buzzing so that’s great. The food arrives at the right time however it’s very pricey. I knew it was high end but £8 for an additional plate of bread is extortionate. However two things happened towards the end of the meal which spoiled it for me. First was the squabbling over the service charge which wasn’t included in the bill when it arrived but for me I was going to tip anyway. The staff then swiped the bill from the table before I looked at it to replace it with another bill with it included. I already seen it so being sneaky wasn’t needed. Furthermore having spent £350 as it was my wives 50th birthday she didn’t even get a complimentary glass of wine or a small dessert. The ending made me think they are a bit tight as a company. I gave it 4 stars because of this when I would have given 5 as the food is first class but didn’t want to give less incase it was an off night

All in all, lovely. It was just a little expensive. £20 for a crab starter that was a little bigger than a canape - maybe two mouthfuls, £40 for a lemon sole is the price I would expect to pay for a more premium fish, and to then charge for vegetables seems cheeky. Also, for the class of restaurant, I would have expected more than a single slice of sourdough as the extra frills, especially considering the food alone (three courses) was £85 each, which didn't include service (added as a charge onto bill). Having said that, the prices are on the door, just don't expect anything more than what is written there. It was a nice evening, the staff were lovely, I'm not sure I could justify going back, but then I'm not sure this will worry them!

Me and my husband booked this restaurant for our first evening meal in Edinburgh on our honeymoon! The staff were so kind, welcoming and took a genuine interest in speaking to us. The food was absolutely gorgeous and they had a great wine selection! We ordered the Crab on brown butter crumpets and Fish soup to start, then Turbot Steak and Lemon Sole Meuniere for our mains. The atmosphere was great, even though the restaurant was quite busy and music was playing, you were still able to hear each other speak and wasn't too much! We really enjoyed it and would definitely visit again!
